Not sure if I have a Ryzen 1600 or 2600x

I'm finding myself in a strange situation - this is my first build with no prior experience, and when my system wouldn't POST, I went looking for potential issues. I've been reading a bit about potential issues with B350 Tomahawk BIOS and Ryzen cpu's depending on the generation of the chip.

I thought I was in the clear because I ordered a Ryzen 5 1600, but taking a closer look at the box, I just noticed that in addition to the proper sticker on the back, there's also a Ryzen 5 2600x sticker.

I now have 0 confidence that I know what processor I received. I'm wondering if I got a 2600x (which would be neat, but would likely mean there is definitely an issue with the BIOS version of the motherboard).

Is there a way for me to tell what processor I actually received?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Look at the CPU itself, on the heat spreader they label it there.

"Audiophilia... when you start to hear voices in your head."

Thanks to you both for the info...it is in fact the 2600X, which is great, except I think that renders the B350 Tomahawk motherboard I purchased useless... from the advice I've been reading online, my only recourse seems to be either purchasing the correct processor, or purchasing a new mobo that will work with the 2600x. Any other suggestions?

If you are willing to wait, file for a boot kit from AMD:

Otherwise, your remaining options are:

  1. Go to a computer shop and have them update the BIOS for you.
  2. Buy/borrow a first gen Ryzen and update the BIOS yourself.
  3. Upgrade to a B450 board, which will support your 2600X out of the box.
