Like others mentioned the 9900k is, and it also happens to be very good at everything else.

 

The 9700k is significantly cheaper (and in stock), and is almost as good at gaming. 

Double check everything, I am usually wrong.

Lol 9900k is probably the best. But it's not necessary to by "the best" 

 

Depending on the resolution, the diff between the best and the rest is just 5 fps.

Genneraly (average AAA game like fallout 4)

 

rx 570 or lower - 2200g

rx 580, rtx 2070, and everything in between - 2600

rtx 2080/gtx 1080ti and everything higher - 9600k

OP didn't say anything about a budget - so technically their question doesn't depend on budget. They asked only which cpu is the best for gaming, and that is a very easy question to answer ? no cpu exists currently that is better at gaming than a 9900k.
