Gaming Laptop with budget of max 1200-1400 USD

Hey all,

I'm looking for my first "Gaming" laptop (currently I have DELL with 2GB AMD HD 8670M GPU). My friend bought MSI laptop with GTX1060 6GB, 16GB RAM with 2TB HDD a year ago. It was way cheaper compared to today's price (cryptocurrency killing GPU prices). I have heard very much of MSI gaming laptop and interested to buy one. Can you please recommend one. So as per today's gaming, I was thinking better I have solid graphics with at least GTX1060 6GB minimum. I like to play first-person shooter games Call of duty, Battlefield, Doom, Bioshock, Wolfenstein. I also like to play games like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex that demands a graphics. I am an intermediate gamer and would like to become 'very good' in gaming.

I was thinking to buy an Xbox One X Scorpio edition console, but I can get cracked games on the laptop rather than spending more money on every new game. Moreover, a laptop does more than Gaming compared to console. 4k gaming is not my concern. I can output video to my 1080p 43 inches LED and play games on the same.

Now due to RTX GPUs, there is a high probability that more graphics demanding games are gonna come. So my concern while gaming laptop is that if I buy a laptop now Dec'18-Jan'19. It should not fall behind immediately compared to other upcoming GPUs (even though laptops with RTX graphics are not planned or announced yet).

What I think I should have on my laptop is

i7 Intel CPU

Min 8 GB RAM DDR4

1TB HDD

Min GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 / GTX1070.

Monitor Display 15.6 or 17 inches (if falls in a budget)

Apart from these, I don't have much technical knowledge on IPS display, refresh rates, GSYNC.

Which brand of laptop and which model should I go for? (MSI, Omen, Predator, ROG- For it seems all MSI laptops are 'GAMING' purpose only. So by just by hearing it from many people, I was thinking to buy it. Whereas you can assist me more on this.)

Do you 100% need a laptop for gaming/Other? Do you care at all about battery life?

Pretty much every laptop is going to have one issue or another, be it cooling, build quality, or battery life.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The brand isn't well known to me in laptops, but in desktops they are great, and this is pretty good for what your budget is at. Let me say though i didn't look too terribly hard for a rock solid deal sorry :/

In terms of value I'd recommend not going over an i5 8300h(4 cores 8 threads) and a 1050ti Those types of machines are easily under $1000

I gave a thought to build a gaming PC but we have less space here and I also want to have a new laptop with me. I also had a thought for a console which will take very less space. But every time purchasing a new game everytime will level me with budget of laptop within 2 years maybe. Whereas I can get cracked games on a laptop.

Thanks though. But I have heard of heating effect for HP branded laptops. I hope since its gaming laptop that effect is nullified.

This is true heating solutions for laptops are just not good enough for long-term use or heavy workloads

Where are you from? Any preference on weight and battery life?

Brands don't matter much when choosing laptops

Depends on model not brand

Should I wait for Gaming laptops with RTX GPU? I think once they are out, current laptops with GTX 1070 GPUs will be at much-lowered prices.
