Thunderbolt 3 sata expansion card

This is a long long long shot and possibly a stupid question, but is there any expansion cards that turn internal SATA ports to USB-C thunderbolt 3 ports? I currently own a laptop with an optical disk drive I do not have use for and I'm hoping to replace it with some a thunderbolt 3 port so I can use a docking station with it.

It would be possible, but the speed would be limited by the SATA port at 3 of 6 Gb/s so it would no be worth it.
