Will 970 evo with pcie adapter work on z87m extreme 4?

Hi,

 

I am wondering if i could get 970 evo with m.2 to pcie x4 adapter work on my z87m Extreme 4? If it will work, will it work on full speed? I am not sure if my motherboard can work with the adapter but i found this in motherboard's slot specification "(1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE4: x4 mode)". Thank you very much.

It will work fine, but you probably can't boot from it, and unless you connect directly to the cpu lanes your limited ot pcie 2 x4 from the chipset.

AsRock added NVMe support back in 2016. So if your BIOS version is at least 2.20, it should work.
