Which mechanical switch should I choose?

Guest MarcoTheNoob

Hello, everyone.

The title says it all, which mechanical switch should I choose? I will post some info below. (E.G: If im typing or not, how hard I press they switch, etc.)

[DISCLAIMER: I know I will get some quesions like "This question is like `Which music genre should I choose` or `Which color should I like`, but screw you, here is it anyways.]

So, here is the info thing:

  • I usually bottom out the key when im typing, even tho I dont really type that much.
  • When Im playing games, I tend to press the switch lightly, not bottoming out.
  • I would like some sort of tactile feedback.
  • I dont give a crap if it is Cherry or Outemu.

Thanks in advance, I guess.

you can order  a set of different key caps from amazon to get a different feel for the switches.

people can give opinions but for something as personal as a keyboard you need to have a hands on feel for what the keys feel/sound like.

Just get one of those key switch testers. There's a bunch of different ones on the market and they're just little rows of switches that you press on to see how it feels. This is the best way to know for sure.

Personal preference. Many like Zealios (and Zilents), Massdrop Halos, BOX Royals, BOX Navy/Jade, Holy Pandas and Alps. Novelkeys has switch testers where you can choose the switches you want.

umm. keycaps dont really change the key feel, its the switches that are responsible for most of the key feel, not the caps.

Some naiice tactile switches imo are:

Zealios, Box Royal, Box True Royal, Holy Pandas, Jail House blues, Ergo greys/clears, 55g topre, bke heavies.
But it very much comes down to personal preference in the end,

Very much personal preference. If you prefer a heavy switch with a click, get MX Blues. If you prefer a heavy switch without a click, get MX Blacks. I prefer the latter, personally.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Browns don't have a click. They have a tactile bump, but no audible feedback. They are also the lightest Cherry tactile switch.

I had blues and browns mixed up then, I'll edit my post. Thank you.

Mx blues arent that heavy at 55g. Mx blacks are pretty scratchy after the change in plastics.

I have MX Blacks in my Ducky One. I couldn't tell you if thats before or after the change in plastics but I've written multiple 10+ page essays on it for college and never noticed what I would describe as scratchiness.

I would see if you can go into some store and try out keyboards for yourself, however I think MX Browns might work for you.

Duckys are relatively new so after the change on plastic, there is kinda a conspiracy in the keyboard community where the older vintage blacks are a lot more smoother than modern mx blacks (Which I believe to an extent after comparing a old to a new g80), but the scratchiness decreases after a few months of usage. Nevertheless cherry switches have a grainy feeling compared to gaterons or vintage cherrys imo.

I disagree

Many users pay and are in search of many things like material/style/profiles/etc

I know from my experience it does change the feel otherwise everyone would be using same shit all around besides aesthetics

Abs to pbt to aluminum to zinc does put in variables of the force to the switch/mushy to hardness overall

I recommend to not use Cherries. Their sound and keyfeel is disappointing.

you can recommend anything

this  is like sound

very subjective

do you have their hands? their typing  style?

their double tap?

ok then

leave it subjective

only thing you should do is input your experience period
