Hey,

As the title suggests i was curious about the fact if a modern day system would recognize hardware from the sata 3 GB age.

There is no sata 6.

Sata 3 is 6Gbps which is probably what is confusing you.

You never know, he could have brought back a drive from the future that is sata 6.

But "sata 6" is sata 3 6Gbps.

aha oke, thanks for clarifying. I did mean to talk about sata 2 and 3 :D
Atm i have a motherboard on which is virtually impossible to use my sata 2 drives on the sata 3 slots..
and since i'm deciding on a new build i just wondered if i could use those old drives or should reserve money for an m2 and an extra ssd

SATA 3, SATA 2, and SATA 1 are all backwards compatible. You get the most speed with using a SATA 3 drive with a SATA 3 port/slot.

Keep in mind, mechanical (spinning) HDD's are limited to around 150 ~ 200 MB/s, so either SATA 2 or SATA 3 port will make no difference.

SATA 3 is capable of up to ~550 MB/s.
