When you buy the mini version of a GPU for your SFF case and it still doesn't fit

O yea, posted this in Graphics Cards because the topic is centered around the GPU, but if a moderator thinks it should go in Build Logs feel free to move it

16GB DDR3

 

120GB PNY CS900 SSD

 

2TB Seagate FireCuda

 

Zotac GTX 1070 Mini

 

Stock Dell cooler (59c max load w/Arctic MX-4)

 

Stock Dell motherboard

 

Modded 240W Dell PSU (custom sleeved cables. Any PSU is modular if you're brave enough)

 

To those of you with PSU concerns, the i5 only uses 40w under full AVX load and maxes out at 59c.

 

the 1070 has actually used all of its power during a Superposition run, but I still have 65W left for the CPU, chipset, RAM,and drives.

 

Sure, I'm very close to the max capacity of the PSU but it can still hold the system together.

 

I'm selling my old build and had this thing plus the 1070 Mini laying about, and a riser cable I wasn't using, so I cut a slot in the side panel drilled some holes for some standoffs, and screwed the riser into the side panel along with an empty hole on the GPU that was probably reserved for a backplate. It works very well but I think the i5 is a bottleneck next to the RAM running in 1333mhz, so I may get a 6th gen ITX motherboard and a 6700k or something. Or I might use this as my perpetual backup. Who knows.

 

If I do get a 6700K and ITX board, I'll have to dremel out the rear I/O as it's actually part of the case on this model. I do have a 390 DT as well, so I might use that chassis if I stay ITX but I do love me a big tower.

Your first problem is that that (english, ikr) case is meant for half-height cards and all 1070s are full height.

Regarding the lengths, Zotac 1070s aren't too mini - the 1070 mini is around the same length as the 1060 AMP edition.

For mini cards, if height isn't a problem, Gigabyte makes some short cards.

 

 

What riser cable is that? Looks like it's from EZDIY, but I don't really know.
