Trying to install Win7 on my Prime Z-370A, but can’t proceed the install because of Windows not recognising keyboard and mouse.

Hey, I upgraded my pc with new motherboard, CPU and new OS drive.

I am having a issue where I can’t proceed the Windows Installation because of my peripherals not being detected by the Windows Installation.

I’ve tried every port on the motherboard plus a usb hub without any luck. I also disabled the USB Legacy Support in the BIOS. 

 

Microsoft tech support is closed atm so I am trying here.

8th and 9th gen intel chips don't officially support windows 7. Most notably the USB drivers seem to be an issue. 

 

You're stuck with windows 10.

Z370 doesn't 'support' Windows 7 out of the box.

That's probably why it's happening.

As others have said, there are no drivers so it's impossible to get working.

Windows 10 is your only option. If you want to blame someone, blame microsoft, it's their fault.

 

AMD released drivers for windows 7 but microsoft went "hurr durr we don't support systems with a ryzen cpu" and basically made windows 7 systems with a ryzen cpu unable to update. It would just say "unsupported hardware, upgrade now because you won't get updates".

 

There is a patch for it (the system i'm using right now has it) so you still get updates and it works fine, but that was basically the end of new hardware and windows 7 support...

Just install windows 10 then. You should be able to use the same key. You can download windows 10 for free from Microsoft's website.

How certain are you that if i were to use my win7 key on a win10 disc that it would be a valid and genuine?

Go to the product page for your motherboard on the Asus website.

Go to the "Support" tab.

Click on "Driver & Utility".

Select Windows 7 as your OS.

Scroll down to "Utilities".

 

The first utility in that section is the Asus EZ Installer and the description says "Use this tool to create a Windows 7 installation file with USB 3.0 drivers preloaded for your ASUS PC."

 

I spent hours learning how to add USB3 drivers into the installer when a friend of mine wanted Windows 7 on his PC with a Z170 Pro Gamer motherboard.

Then I found this utility when I was looking for the LAN driver. Hopefully I saved you the time that I wasted.

After reading all the responses, I'm still curious as to why Windows 7?  You can install Windows 10 and activate with the Windows 7 key.

use another comp to install windows on the drive, or buy a motherboard with ps2 connectors.

This is a pretty straight forward fix. Use Rufus to create a bootable Windows 7 ISO and slipstream the chipset drivers. If your motherboard has them seperate then slipstream the USB 3.0 drivers instead. Some motherboards also have an advanced option in the bios that can be selected to allow a windows 7/8 install.

 

Ignore all the ignorant tools that would rather bend over to intel/microshaft nonsense then spend 5 minutes to look for a solution. Windows 10 spyware was designed specifically for them because they need their hand held at every point to operate a computer. 

What does windows 10 and ET have in common?

 

They are both constantly trying to phone home.

I have to make a correction: it is (mostly) Win7 not supporting newer hardware, not the other way around. If the mobo supports PS2 peripherals, that's probably the easiest way to get around USB drivers for the install.

 

I have managed to activate Win10 with Win7 keys. Use the Win10 install media creation tool from MS, and make sure to install the corresponding Win10 version matching your Win7 key.

 

Just a side comment, Z390 is when the pain starts. Last time I looked, there does not exist Win7 USB drivers for Z390 chipset, but Z370 is ok.

8 and 9 gen Intel CPUs work with Windows 7 just fine.

 

It's not detecting your keyboard and mouse because the Windows 7 installer doesn't have USB 3 drivers in it by default. You can add them to a USB installer by using MSI Smart Tool, or a similar tool by Gigabyte or Intel, who each provide a tool to add USB 3 driver support to a Windows 7 installer.

100% for me. Just tried it with a Windows 7 Professional OEM key and the latest 1809 ISO.  Works fine.

 

Just testing the waters though.  I'm still in Windows 7 in this day and age. :)
