Help picking gpu for my first build

I'm currently working on building my first pc and am having trouble choosing my gpu. I've bought a 2700x for my CPU and already have a 1080p 144hz monitor and plan on buying another one later on in the future. I was looking at the rtx 2070, used 1080 TI, 1080, or 1070ti and was wondering what would be the best gpu for my build? All advice or tips are welcome

Esports type games will still hit higher fps numbers in general.

Could also find a used 980ti for like $200 ish depending on what you find on ebay.

All depends on the games you're playing. I think a 1080 or 2070 is a good choice

what else do you plan to do with this computer?

 

a 1080  should handle your 1080p resolution at 144hz fine

 

if you plan to upgrade your monitor to a 1440p at some point eventually it could also handle that screen too.

BUT if you wanted to more future proof your card i would recommend the new card

used 1080 ti should be your best choice, it's an excellent value should you secure one for like $500

I would go with the 2070 (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2070/). If you did, you would want to upgrade your PSU. That is really only if you want the balls to the wall build though. If not, go with a regular 1070, it's still a great card.

Why would you pick the 2070 over the 1080 TI? Also, it says in your link that 550W PSU is recommended, so what makes you say that I'd need to upgrade my PSU? I'm new to all of this so I'm just curious and want to learn the thinking behind your advice

You wouldn't a 1080 Ti is more powerful than the RTX 2070, and a 550W PSU is enough for a 1080 Ti or a 2070. Don't listen to that advice.

So what would be a good price range that I should be shooting for? I'm seeing everything from low $500 to $750 on ebay. I read that gpus used for crypto mining might not be so good and I'm just worried that the cheapest gpus might have been used for miningor have some other faults

A 1080 ti should go for less than $575 and have 2 fans or less than $600 and have 3. Blowers work fine but they're louder and slower. Don't worry about mining GPUs, they're fine.

This one is slightly sketchy, using only a stock image, but the description of it is rather sincere instead of bot generatied, and since we eBay is purchase protected, seems like a good deal. I used a 1080 Duke in a build and the user is extremely satisfied with it because the cooler is very capable for how quiet it is.

That is a $2500 card.... That is a terrible recommendation, just stop hahaha you have no idea what you are talking about. Also, how are you 'future proofing' by using a less powerful 2070 over a 1080Ti, Nvidia has driver support for cards that are 7 years old to this day. Nothing about that warrants, as you put it 'constantly upgrading'.

The fact that makes it even more sketchy, is the seller only has a rating of 10 (super low) and only has positive feedback, no negative or neutral in the last 12  months. In my opinion, don't do it, everything is super sketchy. This one seems legit and like a fairly decent seller.

Using what you said about the drivers, there is no doubt about Nvidia supporting the 20 series longer than the 10 series. But from what I have seen, a lot games are nearly identical on each card. The 1080 ti might have a 5-10fps increase over the 2070. The 2070 also has RTX, sure there is only one or two games out with RTX, but think of future AAA games.
