2000€ Gaming Build

Hey guys, I am currently planning a 2000€ gaming build for a friend of mine. The budget can be solely spend on pc parts because the peripherals have a seperate budget. If needed the budget can be extended to ~2500€.
He will not do anything like rendering etc. so the CPU should deliver the best frame rate in games and the single core performance is more important than the multi core performance and amount of cores.

He is planning to run 2 - 3 monitors which should be pretty irrelevant with a build of this size.

He has nothing that can be reused because his components are pretty old so the only thing that we could reuse is a harddrive.

Right now I am thinking of:
CPU: 9700k
GPU: RTX 2070 or 2080
Motherboard: Dunno about that. There are so many out there
RAM: 16 - 32GB DDR4 of some sort
Storage: 500GB - 1 TB 970 EVO + some kind of SATA SSD or HDD
CPU Cooler: Dunno really. Is a all in one water solution for the CPU any good?
Case: Well I guess he'd like something "fancy" with a bit of RGB. Not too much but it should look pretty and "gamerish".
PSU: 700W?

btw, it says you need another eps connector, but 2x4 is enough exept if he's going for ln2 overclocking

No RGB case however. I don't really see the appeal of 'RGB Cases', something like this case is much more appealing to look at

Although this has no NVMe. Why is that? Any particular reason? Do you think water cooling has no advantage over an air cooler?

Looks good to me. Don't think he will need 8TB of HDD storage though. I'd rather go with 1 TB 970 Evo and a 1 TB HDD or something. Any reason for the Ryzen? Gaming wise Intel is better right?

Intel is better, but the 9900K is pretty hot (and goes way over it's TDP, 95W is a joke when it easily surpasses 180W when not OCed and 240W when OCed) and the AM4 socket has some benefits (i.e. supports Ryzen until Zen 3, CPUs don't cost an arm and leg) and it runs much cooler. I'd recommend waiting for Zen 2 however, it's supposed to be much better according to the rumors (the specs will be shown at CES 2019).

 

A 970 EVO is not really necessary unless you're doing video editing or anything that is really intensive on your storage drive, so 500GB is fine. Get 1TB 970 evo and 1TB HDD if you want tho lol

all in all the 8600k is still better rated and suited for gaming then anything else apparently out there…. Why even bother with something like a i9 9900 in such a case?

Oke i thought that with the current techniques it would be a piece of cake for the 2070 or 80 …. 

This article even talks about the integrated gpu and multiple monitors though… i can envision indeed the need for an i9 when 4k gaming is coupled with 3 monitors though again i'm not sure if i see that correctly

The 9700K is better than the 8700K/8086K so that statement makes no sense. Of course it depends on the price at the time to determine value etc.

its pretty much same performance from what ive seen so if the price is lower for 8700k theres no point getting 9700k

That is why I said it depends on the price. If one is significantly cheaper then you obviously go with that cpu. 

 

I don't know where the op is buying from, but if you look at UK prices the 8700K and 9700K OEM versions are the same price. Obviously it will vary from Country to Country.

I am buying in germany, but I think price difference is near zero too.
So question still is Ryzen or rather an Intel? I mean for gaming Intel is better but also more expensive. Does it make sense to go for a Ryzen and spend the 100 bucks or something on something else?
