QQ/Opinion - Most beneficial upgrade?

Lahidden

Hello LTT Forums,

Newerish viewer, new lurker. I don't really build a new computer all at once, I upgrade/swap out parts over years, and I am looking for my next upgrade. Below is my current computer spec. What I am looking for is increasing my FPS / graphics on games like overwatch and company of heroes (especially COH beautiful game). I also do some heavy excel computing for work, but that is a secondary priority.

Essential Components

  • Core i7-4790 @3.6ghz
  • 16gig RAM dont recall exact clock speed, but same brand/model - https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-16GB-PC4-27200-Viper-PV416G340C6K/dp/B016ATK2O8
  • NVIDIA 1070 - https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Graphics-GV-N1070G1-GAMING-8GD/dp/B01H0WU884

Monitors

  • Primary: Dell - 27" LED QHD G-SYNC Monitor - https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-27-led-qhd-g-sync-monitor-black/5293502.p?skuId=5293502)
  • Secondary: ASUS PA248Q Black 24.1" 6ms - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236287

  1. Should I pick up some more RAM on holiday specials?
  2. Is my CPU bottle necking me when it comes to gaming?

Thanks guys!

You would want a better CPU, and maybe a better GPU. RAM isn't the problem 8GB is more than enough for most tasks. The problem with your CPU is that it's using an old socket so it you want a newer CPU you'll have to upgrade the motherboard too.

Any recommendations or where I should be aiming? Thanks for the reply.

I would get a ryzen 5 2600, and the asrock B450 Pro4 motherboard with it. It should be good enough to not bottleneck your GPU and the AM4 socket is going to last atleast until 2020.
