Using a I7 9700k in a Z370 board?

You can use 9000 CPUs on Z370, just need to flash the Bios.

Main system: i7 8700k 5Ghz / Asus Prime Z370-A / Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3000Mhz / Asus TUF RTX3080 / EVGA 750W GQ / Fractal Design Meshify C

As stated above, a BIOS update is all you should need. However, you must have an 8th gen CPU installed to perform a BIOS update if the current BIOS doesn't support 9th gen chips.

Why 9700K though? The 8700K beats it in multithreaded workloads because intel disabled hyperthreading on the 9700K. The 9700K is an 8 core 8 thread CPU whereas the 8700K is a 6 core 12 thread CPU.

You should be able to see the bios version by spamming delete when you power it on.

Most boards are sold with the oldest BIOS, but some are sold with an updated BIOS.

You can also contact shop, and ask them what BIOS version will they send you.

Some local shops in my country also offer an option to upgrade BIOS for 15€.

Go to the board manufacturers website and see what update it is on. Then compare it with your by checking your bios.
