Hi everyone, my friend has asked me to help build him his first proper gaming PC and I could use some advice on what's the best components he can get for his money. He's planning to play on one monitor at 1080p/144hz.We're from the UK.

The case preference I was given was that it should look similar to IN WIN 101 case but I think he's just looking for a black and red lighting theme. He's also asked me to compile a second list that includes a monitor, keyboard and mouse in the budget.

going with ryzen will lower the price, with minimal effects on gaming. And you don't need to buy a separate cooler, meaning you could  go with a 1tb ssd (if you find one for that cheap). Ryzen 2700x for $230 or about 181 quid.

If he goes with Ryzen or an 8700K both with be hot with a stock cooler so I'd stick with the current cooler. You've got $50 left for windows (unless you wanna go pirated which i wouldnt. ) This is a good build, i'd stick with it.

you can go online and get a windows key for about $20. And the ryzen stock is good enough for most cases

As someone who owns a 2700x I would have to disagree. It runs at a very reasonable temperature on the stock cooler. Also the 8700k doesn't even come with a stock cooler so yeah it would run hot without an after market cooler
