Should I Get New Headphones?

Hello there.

I'm currently using the HyperX Cloud II headset for gaming (Xbox and PC), music, and watching movies/youtube/etc. I've had them for about a year and they're great!

However, I stumbled upon this article: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/74o6wc/in_search_of_my_first_gaming_headset/do15cij/ and I might be considering getting a different headset (and selling my Cloud II). I'm considering of getting:

Headphones: https://www.amazon.com/Status-Audio-Closed-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B01BDX1IVW/ (Status Audio CB-1)

Mic: https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK/ (V-MODA BoomPro)

Recently, I've been using my headset for music mostly and I love hearing the bass, but I'm still using them for gaming and videos. I also just recently got a PS4, so I can use the Cloud II dongle to get virtualized surround sound (I love this on PC, haven't tried it on PS4 yet).

Also, my hearing is not that great and I'm not sure if I'll be able to tell a difference between headsets/headphones.

Should I change headsets/headphones? Will I really hear a difference? Thank you for your help!

The Cloud IIs are one of the better headsets out there and between the Status Audio and them you won't hear much difference besides the Status are very neutral so that may affect you at first because you love bass but not much perceivable difference. Not worth the money. The Microphone would be better but I recommend saving up at least 200$ for your headphones and then getting an Antlion Modmic Wired for 60$.

What headphones would you recommend?

There are so many to recommend.

This post pretty much has most of the good ones. Some of them might require amplifiers.

First of all, save up atleast 300-350$ (you can get your setup done within 200$ but its your wish). There are a few TechQuickie videos that describe some audio related terms very well like Open vs Closed Back Headphones, etc. Go to a store that lets you try on headphones and just listen to something on different pairs even ones not mentioned here and compare comfort and sound. It ultimately depends on your preference.

When you are ready to purchase, make a new post (and tag me if you remember) and mention the games you play and the types of music you listen to and any preferences, like vocal clarity, open vs closed, bass heavy??? Different headphones are better at some stuff than others. Once you get somewhat familiarized with the basic features on headphones, you will be able to shortlist. If something doesn't sound good just return it (advantage of buying on amazon) and try something different. And if you aren't an audiophile but just want good sound then don't spend too much because beyond certain point like 500$ for headphones the sound difference in quality isn't linear to increase in cost of the headphones.

Check out a few of the reviews of headphones and headsets (to compare the difference in sound and features) on YouTube by reviewers like Hardware Canucks (Great reviews, well explained with focus on gaming) and some random ones from other tech YouTubers.
