The Android software has a lot more freedom, but that makes it prone to viruses (that shouldn't be a problem if you know what you're doing). The iOS is the exact opposite, very hard to get a virus, but barely any freedom. As an example, I can connect a ps4 controller to most Android software, but not iOS. Also with Android software, you can get skins which completely changes the look of your phone. (on the screen, not the phone itself). As for hardware, it depends what phone you want.

Android is open OS. You can customize is to your liking with different icons, wallpapers, themes etc etc.  I can strap a mouse to my Note 9 and use it as a PC mouse.

 

I look at iOS like rental home. Yes you live in it, but you cannot change anything in it. It's limited to what original owner has provided.

Apple pros:

iOS is better in terms of built in features (e.g. iMessage, FaceTime, App Store, AirDrop)

Better software integration (as Apple only make the software for their own brand whereas Android is made for dozens of brands)

Their phones age better (depends whether planned obsolescence kicks in though)

 

Apple cons:

Everything is tied into the Apple ecosystem

I've found their devices to be more fragile than Android phones (this is a personal experience though so don't be 100% on this)

Their phones are overpriced

 

Android pros:

More devices to choose from

Better price to performance

Quicker access to new features (in screen fingerprint scanner, multiple cameras etc.)

You can get phones that perform like flagship phones for a more budget friendly price (e.g. OnePlus 6/6T, Pocophone F1)

 

Android cons: 

With Samsung phones the battery degrades quicker 

You can brick your phone if you screw up a mod

Do you know the build quality differences and pros and cons of say an X and like the S9 or some other high end Android phone? I’d be interested in stuff like this for future Apple vs Android debates (I try to get the other person to agree both have their pros and cons and it’s all personal preference)

Yeah, that's why I mentioned the planned obsolescence. I'm 100% aware Apple is trying to deliberately slow down phones, I'm just saying that iPhones hold their value more as they age.

The S9 is a pretty solid phone although I'd try to avoid Samsung as the batteries in their phones degrade quickly, from both personal experience and youtube reviews. I own a Galaxy S7 but I've heard it happens to other Samsung phones.

 

I'd recommend OnePlus if you're looking for a good quality, well priced phone that performs like a 2018 flagship device.

Another thing i havent seen mentioned. Ive generally found iphones to be better made and have less problems than android phones. 

 

Android phones tend to slow down significantly as they get older, and run into other problems.  

 

Iphones also hold their resale value better as a result.

I'd say Android is to the iPhone as a tuner car is to a leased Mercedes.

 

Android is more customizable and flexible, and likely to be a better value if all you care about is raw specs.  However, it's also flakier, trickier to use and not well-supported.  The iPhone?  You can't tweak much or do absolutely anything you want with it, but you do get a more reliable, easier-to-use and properly supported platform, and the seemingly lower specs may belie superior performance in key areas (for example, Apple's six-core A12 chip is generally faster than all the eight-core chips in current high-end Android phones).

 

Personally, I prefer the iPhone simply because I'm more interested in getting fundamental smartphone tasks done than tinkering with my device, and I want a strong support network both for updates and in case anything goes wrong.  But I also wouldn't fault someone for getting a good Android phone if they have use cases that Apple won't touch (like pen input on a phone) or simply crave a specific hardware feature.

well, Apple has been known to cut corners. Such as no headphone-jack and no expandable storage. Also, their parts cost a lot more to replace, and with these apple "geniuses" they will urge you to just upgrade your phone the whole time you're there. One of the things that really makes me mad is that in the apple 7 and up phones, the speaker that replaced the headphone-jack doesn't even work. And the reason they hold their resale value is because they overcharge for a lot of things

Those aren't "cutting corners," those are conscious design decisions (whether or not you think they're wise is another matter).  A microSD card slot doesn't cost much to implement -- however, it does introduce performance concerns (SD cards are almost always much slower than built-in storage) and adds complexity to storage management.

I am speaking from an educated position and an experienced one. When I had to go to the genius bar to get my 8+ screen fixed, I probably heard that I should upgrade about 7 or so times. Also, an sd card is amazing and as you said, it doesn't cost much to implement. It gives you practically unlimited storage which is great for people who take a lot of pictures. And yes it may take a little longer to upload, but it also can double, or even triple the capacity of your phone. And if your complaining that the select and upload adds to many complications, then idk what to say. And sorry my phrasing was incorrect, instead of "cutting corners" I meant to say removing features, such as headphone jack, home button, etc. 

 

On a side note, completely unsarcastic, I like to consider myself curious, so what is behind that grille
