GTA V major problems with 2070 and 8600k

bradwiggo

What FPS should I expect with an i5-8600K (not overcloked) and a 2070 in GTA V at 1080*2560 (1080p ultrawide)?

As I am only getting about 86 fps, which seems low. The CPU usage is at almost max yet the GPU is only at around 75%.

The settings in GTA V are at high or very high and msaa is at 4x. No advanced graphics settings on.

I found this video which seem to be getting better results than me:

Disappointed as I swapped my vega 64 for a 2070 because I though the vega was holding back the fps in GTA V, and yet here I am with a 2070 with only about 5 more fps.

Update: Just tried similar settings to in the video (possibly a tiny bit higher), and I only get 40fps, whereas they get around 90.

Specs:

  • i5-8600K
  • Evga Black RTX 2070
  • 16GB DDR4 2400MHz
  • ASRock Extreme 4 Z370
  • Fractal Design Meshify C Light TG

Location: UK

Plays: Minesweeper at 1000 fps.

welp i didn't know the 8600k even bottlenecked in GTA, add that one to the list. The 6 threads really is a problem, but you can oc your 8600k for it to be a bit better.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by the 6 threads? I went with the 8600K as it was £110 cheaper than he 8700k and people always say the performance difference in games is less than 10%. The CPU in the video isn't overclocked, and I get half of the performance they do at the same resolution, same specs and same settings. I know there is a gamble with the silicon lottery and all but surely that is too much of a difference.
