If wired ethernet is an option, then there's no point of using WiFi.

Also some motherboards also have the wifi card built into them

For Example:

If your pc is close enough to your router then it'd be much more worth it to get ethernet, especially in online games. If you plan on moving your pc around often or are too far away from the router then go with wifi. Personally, I try to avoid wifi when possible because of occasional ping spikes but it depends on your use case.

My Setup

Intel® Core™ i5-4590||Asrock Z97 Extreme4||8GB HyperX Fury 1600MHz DDR3||EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti HYBRID GAMING||NZXT H700i Matte Black/Blue||WD Green 240GB SSD||WD Blue 2TB HDD||Corsair CX550M||ASUS VG248QE 24" 144 Hz 1080p||Corsair Hydro Series H60 (2018)||Corsair K70||Corsair Gaming GLAIVE RGB||HyperX Cloud Stinger||Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

If you dont need WiFi then dont worry about it. However, some boards have built in WiFi out of the box. I think Intel is adding WiFi support to CPU's in the future if I read it correctly so..... I really wouldn't worry about it until you need it. Because chances are you might have it built in, and if not its very easy to buy a WiFi card.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

probably go with Ethernet then, you'll save a buck and get slightly better internet performance.

does the internet slow down if your cable is longer or isn't it noticeable?

Unless it's over 100 meters long there is no degradation to the signal.
