Maximus XI Extreme DIMM.2 card and PCIE speed

I've read numerous of topics on this and am still a little uncertain what is correct. From my understanding if I use a single M.2 on the DIMM.2 card then the PCIe x16 GPU is going to drop to x8. Some say it doesn't and it still operates at x16. So anyone with this mobo did you use the onboard M.2 sockets or the riser card and still get x16 for your video card? I can't test this out myself as I am still waiting for my Samsung 970 Pro M.2 SSD.

Yes the dimm.2 will limit the x16 slot to x8.

Just use the m.2 slots connected to the pch on the board.

Why did you get a 970 pro? Id get a evo, for almost every user there the same and your paying extra for mlc that won't help you.

It was $100 off. Still a few bucks more than an evo but I didn't mind. Ok pch it is. I'll try not to strip the screws on the heatsink when its time to install. I read some are having issues removing the screws because they have thread lock on them.
