So many thinkpads! Which one is for me?

As the title says, I'm pretty sold on a thinkpad, but I don't know which one. I'm looking for something older but still usable with Windows 10, and able to get 6+ hours on a battery. Price range is roughly $300USD.

$300 doesn't get you much in terms of a laptop. What tasks are you looking to complete with this laptop?

umm i can get a thinkpad with a quad core i7 and 16gb of ram for that if i try. 

 

OP, what are you looking to do with it? 

what display size do you want? 

is weight and battery life a concern?

Its a college laptop, so basic word/excel/chrome and video streaming. Must run W10 because 7 and below arent compatible with my colleges network. 15" or greater would be a major upgrade over what I have now (13". Just a bit too small to comfortably have word and chrome open at the same time). Weight isnt much of an issue, Battery Life is. As I said in my OP, 6 hours battery life

how many tabs in chrome? 

 

you're not gonna get 6 hours. old 15" laptops didn't get that much when they were new, nevermind now that the batteries are really old.

2 or 3. Even if I get 5 and have to buy a new battery I will. My Inspiron 13 only gets 4 if im lucky

i have an EliteBook ultrabook from 2012, so about the era you'll be looking for, and that gets 2 hours if i'm careful with it. expect less from a big 15".

I have an 8460p (2012) that gets 4 before the BB09 cradle/battery. With Elitebooks you could get 4 different batteries, from 3 to 9 cells.

i'ver got a 9470M... maybe the battery on mine is just kinda crap. 

 

question though, if you have that already, why get a thinkpad?

Because the 11LBS the 8460P weighs with the cradle is a bit excessive. It's also not a 15, and because of the cradle it takes quite literally all night to charge.

I'd go with a T420 here to be honest.

 

Lenovo still sells batteries for them, including a 9 cell extended battery. The screen can be upgraded to a 1080p IPS panel in the future. They'll be based off a sandy bridge CPU, which is also upgradable.

Funnily enough, the T420 was one of the models I was thinking of. It doesn't have as big of a screen as I would like, but I fear my "perfect device" fits into such a niche category it doesnt exist
