You are adding logistics, inventory cost, manufacturing cost to have an option for something where all this would costs more than what the feature is worth.

So basically you'll end up with:

  • No camera  +0$
  • Shitty Camera +50$
  • Premium Camera +90$

Would you add 90$ on a laptop?

Or you'll go "Well I rarely use the camera... I have a good webcam already if I ever need it... so: No Camera/Shitty Camera

Since I have no use for those (I have a great headset for mic) and I literally never used any camera in any laptop ever, yes I wouldn't mind buying a model that didn't feature those to save a buck.

To be honest, I think companies would look at this more like the camera being a 'no cost option'. If this ever became an available choice when speccing your laptop, I wouldn't be surprised if the price was the same, with or without.

A sad truth... annoys me though no less how so much money is wasted on these useless hardware and useless software as in all that bloatware Acer, Sony and so on will fill their laptops OS with... even worse is how heavy those things are on system resources and most common folk don't delete the junk worried something will break.

It has to be a way to force people to upgrade sooner....

38$ for a camera is very expensive.

Considering Apple have been getting away with the same 720p iSight camera in various forms, it's time for an upgrade to at least 1080p. I don't mind if its not 5 or 8 MP or whatnot, just something that's not grainy! I'm paying for an Apple here I don't mind the cost!

In the 3 years that I've used my current laptop, I have not once used the camera. The camera could have been dead since I got it, and I wouldn't have noticed. I'm not going to pay for a better camera.
