While funny, I hope this doesn't go too far or get too ridiculous.

Don't call me a nerd, it makes me look slightly smarter than you

I don't have a Youtube account.  I haven't ever subscribed to anyone.

However - I find all of this to be fun to read about.  Hacking thousands of printers?  I love seeing people get together and accomplishing things.  And is this nefarious...not to me, to me its kind of like TP'ing a tree.  Its funny at first just don't keep doing it.

Hacking a AAA title...priceless.  And shouldn't this open up the door for their security to figure out the issue that was already in place allowing this to happen?

If I were rockstar I would fix the vulnerability and pay whoever found it, not sue them.  The hack did not cost rockstar any money or release any valuable information.

It's pretty well known that GTAO relies very heavily on data that is stored client side and therefore is pretty easy to modify.

Once you've worked out the protocol all you have to do is write something that hooks the game and uses the protocol to send information to the server. That's how hackers can fire sacks of money at other players, teleport them, kill them or transform them. Basically player one tells his game that player 24 is a seagull, player ones client sends that data to the server, the server relays it to all other clients and suddenly player 24 is now a seagull.

It sounds stupid but when you examine it you realise it kind of has to be that way in order to work the way it does.

Also calling it a hack is a bit of a stretch, you're only modifying your own computers memory, the game then does what it's supposed to do and forwards that to the server.

No lawsuit for propaganda or harassment (this is neither by definition).  But there are other laws they can go after them - the lawsuit would have to be tailored around the laws in the Country from which the Hack took place.  Most likely just some obscure hacking law, unless they Chinese then firing squad.  Most someone will see out of this is probation at best.

So in reality - they modified their client side - Im not sure how any sort of Lawsuit can happen.  While they don't own the digital code - it will all come down to region specific laws.

It makes sense to me, I think its hilarious and outright witty.  I personally don't have any of that sort of available time on my hands but kudos to those who do!

Exactly. I do think it would be covered under computer misuse laws in some countries but in reality its a slap on the wrist in much the same way as using online cheats would be.
