But it will handle the resolution in normal use ( word, powerpoint, movies,...)?

yep, with ease

I am looking at buying an dell ultrasharp U2518D (1440p 60Hz) but I am worried that my laptop can't run it.

I have a hp elitebook 840 g4 ( intel i5 7200u, radeon r7 M150).

Your laptop is equipped with a DisplayPort 1.2 port according to NotebookCheck, which is sufficient to output 1440p60 signal.

but I don't know if my graphics card can handle it.

it can. displaying out some random picture is like the easiest thing ever for a GPU to do.

heck, my iGPU in my HP Probook 6470b from 2012 can do it. and that is a intel 4000 series iGPU.
