Best Performance or should I Upgrade

Hi Guys

 

I'm new to this forum but love linus tech tips.. 

 

My current build is 

Core i5 6600 

Gtx 1070ti

8GB DDR4 Ram

550 Watt PSU

 

I would have thought upgrading my graphics card would allow me to get better performance in games such as Rainbow Six Siege and steams free to play Ring of Elysium. But alas no. 

I am sitting at 50—60 fps on elysium with severe frame drops(down to 5-12) 

 

I need some advice on what I can do to boost my performance. Wether it's over clocking, investing in a new cpu, getting more ram. I'm not a massive know it all, wish I was, and I'm struggling to figure out what to do. 

 

Any advice on things I can do to boost performance would be great.

more RAM first, but even then it will only smooth frame rates, not increase fps much. The CPU goes next.

3 isn't baller.  4 is baller.  3 is matching your name, since RAM is run in dual channel mode for best results, meaning pairs of sticks.

 

16 GB is all you need.  8 is too little, without turning every other program off.  32 is too much.

I'm thinking about getting the core i7 8700k and another stick of ram. Would that be sufficient to increase my fps?

Weird. I played ROE on my i7-950 (yes, first gen) and Radeon hd7770 with 8gb completely fine without dropping below 60 and very stable

I hAve an unfinished pc build. Pls dont bully for not having one yet or i cry.

uhm, without a new motherboard, the CPU won't run and you get 0 fps. Z370 or Z390 is needed if you want to overclock

Another 8 GB ram and that should help smooth frame performance?

I don’t rremember the settings because I’m not home, and have since uninstalled the game due to connection problems but I believe medium.

The "Z170" part is the identifier as to what CPU's it can run.  Certain CPU's need certain boards.  You can find it if you google.

 

Like @Jurruniosaid you need a Z370 or Z390 board and you only have a Z170.
