B450 Motherboard

I just ordered my motherboad (Gigabyte B450M DS3H) as a bundle with the Ryzen 5 2600 for £207.19, but there is a deal to get the Ryzen 5 2600 with the MSI B450M PRO-VDH motherboard for £186, should I return the Gigabyte B450M DS3H bundle and get the MSI B450M PRO-VDH bundle? If yes, why?

Of course, the MSI board's VRM and VRM cooling are much better than that on the Gigabyte board.

Gigabyte board is a little better, and Gigabyte has better customer service. You shouldn't go through the hassle.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

when I say cooling, I mean temperatures. MSI board's VRM is 33% more efficient, which means with identical heatsinks, the temperature will be lower.

I've seen posts here and there saying that MSI boards are more likely to fail than others, is that true?

That sounds terrible, the motherboard is for my wife's workstation build, she needs reliable parts and great customer service from the manufacturers if shit goes south so I think we'll spend £20 more and get the gigabyte if that's true.

Gigabyte is no better than MSI unfortunately. In fact Asus and Asrock are also at similar level when it comes to customer service.

All depends on what we are talking about, obviously there are models better than others in every brand, the problem with MSI is their Bios is really buggy and inconsistent.

Mostly use Asrock or Asus on my builds due to the quality and bios. But again, for example Asus this time around on their Z390 dropped the ball, poor VRM choices...

I don't plan on overclocking anything, do I have to worry about a buggy BIOS too much?

Asus's Z390 boards are fine electrically, just poor prices as they usually are.

 

If MSI's BIOS is buggy, then Gigabyte's BIOS is a trap/maze

Oof, are Gigabyte BIOS's that bad? Your source on that information? I just double checked with the retailer and they offer 3 years warranty so if MSI is better than Gigabyte the board dying won't be the biggest issue in those 3 years as the retailer would deal with it.

 

I can see the Bazooka motherboard is slightly better from the spec sheets so I'd choose that one if I went with MSI.

Personally I would just stick with the original purchase and avoid the hassle. Over the course of 10 years I've purchased 5 different Gigabyte boards for different personal builds and every one of them worked flawlessly with no issues.

I'd suggest an EVGA board, but since you're going with a B450 I can only assume you're set on a AMD build.
