Is USB 3.0 really necessary?

Owen the Trusty man

I just bought a rosewill micro atx case from like 2011 on amazon and I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have USB 3.0. Does it really matter? Would I be fine keeping this case and not having USB 3.0?

USB3 on the case is merely a creature comfort. Boards still have USB2.0 headers as well, so just connect that and call it a day.

As long as your motherboard has usb 3.0 on the back id say it doesn't matter all that much given the fact that you can reach around the back for faster speeds when you need them.

For any gaming purpose usb 3.0 is only situational (coping games from a external drive best case scenario), any periferials use 2.0 (including new mechanical keyboards) , you will have the rear aio 3.0 from your motherboard, and if you need more there's 3.0 hub's that has external power (better for hungry peripherials) for 30$ or so, so 3.0 on the case is just for confort.

I'm more confident puting this if I have tons of peripherials , (rgb mouse , rgb keyboard , dac ,  xbox controller, blue yeti mic...) and to have less cables on the air taunting my dog to chew them.

I agree it is not necessary on the case, but one funny note is that the Das Keyboard Professional i bought for work is usb 3.0 for some reason. No back lighting etc but it is definitely a usb 3.x type A plug.
