Need a new over 30" monitor for Pc and PS4

Asif saeed

Hey guys,

I need a new monitor preferably a large one so I can use it for laid back gaming and movie watching. I live in a dorm where I wont have a space for keeping a monitor and a TV so a larger monitor, which I can use for regular fps gaming and also for "couch" gaming with my ps4. I also am heavy media consumer, so larger monitor is preferred as I can watch movies/tv shows comfortably from my bed.

My budget is under 300CAD, but if the monitor is worth it, I can go up to 500CAD. I only have gtx 970 so 1440p or 4k gaming is out of the window. Below is a monitor which I found to be close to what I am looking for, but I have very little knowledge of display panels and such. So help is appreciated.

I run a 32 inch and I can not see a difference between 1080 or 4k. Hell I cant even see a difference on a friends 75 inch from 40 cm and neither can he.

I would personally recommend that you get a 1440 monitor and only play your games in windowed 1080p. 1440p on PS4 is a bit shady though. A 970 should be able to run something like Fortnite at high settings 60 fps at 1440p. Here is one I found, but it really depends on what resolution you want. Your 970 should be fine at 1440p unless you want to be running all max settings.

I will be playing very few games on close distance, mostly I will be studying, browsing or writing at close distance. I used a 40in tv for 5 years as my gaming display as the country I used to live, I didn't have much choice back then. I think a proper monitor will be an upgrade.

Wouldn't 1080p on 1440p look bad?

I remember I tried 720p on my 1080 tv and it looked horrible.  Also as ps4 we know isn't much of a powerhouse, i don't know if it will look good on 1440p monitor.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I guess if you want something like what you're asking for just get a 1080p one. Keep in mind that when you sit close to a monitor that large that's only 1080p that reading text may be hard on your eyes.

So I should get 1440p for monitor this size?

You could. I think the resolution would be nice for your pc, but I really don't know how it would run with a PS4. Do you have a regular PS4 or a PS4 Pro?
