DoctorNick reacted to akio123008 in China’s Inner Mongolia Declares War on Crypto Mining
I'm no expert on crypto stuff, so I don't comment on it too much, but from what I know about it, I think cryptocurrencies shouldn't exist. I just hate the idea that people around the world are trying to reduce carbon emissions in all sorts of ways, sometimes even investing large sums of money, and then there's a bunch of people burning up a huge amount of power in these computers doing nothing useful at all, just to make what seems to me like a marginal amount of profit. Power that may as well be spent to do actual useful work. Imagine all that energy being used for scientific research for instance.

Depends what you're using the computer for and what its other specs are, as well as what operating system and programs you are running.

But if you already have the ram lying around then you might as well put it in.

DoctorNick reacted to Spotty in Motherboard needs jumpstart after power outage
Is 'jumpstarting' what the 'technician' describes they are doing to fix it? You can't 'jumpstart' a PC.

Turn the switch at the back of the PSU off then on again.

Why so many power outages? Invest in a UPS.

DoctorNick reacted to Enderman in Do think this kind of NiMH(Li-Po?) batteries are better than alkaline batteries and other NiMH for wireless mice like the G304
Also any battery that comes with built in micro USB charging is going to be crap.
There already is extremely limited space inside an AA cell.

If you want maximum capacity then buy an Energizer Ultimate Lithium, which has far more energy than any NIMH battery (3500 vs 2500 mAh).
If you need it to be rechargeable then get a dedicated charger and buy high quality NIMH cells.

This, you don't want LiPo for the use cases that require AA batteries anyway. Get Nihm or Li-Ion

DoctorNick reacted to Applefreak in Chrome is killing my pc
Why is chrome launching automatically? That should not happen unless you set it to somehow. First you want to remove chrome from autostart. Next make sure you remove all chrome extensions. The only reason for chrome to autostart I can see is if you have an extension like a btc miner or a game running that needs chrome to execute and thus will start with windows. Could be something else as well but that would be my guess.

I suggest you to use Chrome's own task manager to see what is using up your CPU in chrome. Do, SHIFT+ESC.

@oali24 Did it have thermal paste from factory or thermal pad?
I tried to replace thermal pads on the cpu in my laptop with thermal paste and it was stuck in a bootloop. Found out that the pressure plate was touching some point on the mobo...
If your laptop came with thermal paste from the factory, look that you're not applying too much pressure on the CPU (the heatsink that bolts over the cpu)

DoctorNick reacted to Mark Kaine in Why am I downloading a 26 GB warzone 'update', and why does it say 'copying'?
I've never installed the full game and it's 84 GB, I forgot to check if it actually added some size now after the update.
I mean that wasn't really a complaint about the size rather that *every time* I start this game there seems to be a patch, and the experience was quite buggy and time consuming for sure - it'd probably still download if I hadn't restarted the launcher several times.

DoctorNick reacted to igormp in Chromebook charger safe for an s20+?
Both are USB-C, right? If so, then sure, no problems.

Your S20+ will pull a max of 25W out of the charger, doesn't matter if it's 45 or 100W.

If we're talking about USB-PD, then the device and charger should negotiate a common voltage that works for both. Baseline is 5v at startup and they there's the whole handshake thing to get higher voltages and currents.

I would just keep the 5800x and wait for ram. 5800x has awesome performance and if intel will beat it, it will only be because of massive clock speed out of the box with tons of heat.

Hmm.. The Node 804 is quite big. You could go for a Prodigy M. I have made a few builds in that it it's quite nice actually. (maybe not the prettiest case)  - https://www.bitfenix.com/products/chassis/micro-atx/prodigy-m/prodigy-m-gallery/
Edit: It's actually bigger. My fault..
