    First of all it's not legal because the licence key is tied to the BIOS and the activation is also tied to hardware IDs, and second of all it is very likely that it will not stay activatey because the Windows installation will see that it's actually a different device and de-activate Windows after that.

    I would format it, but keeping it in shouldn't be a problem at all. If it were, there wouldn't be any laptops that have more than one storage device.
