Microsoft can blame whatever they want for the failure of Windows Phone but the facts remain. They:
Burned down and rebuilt the platform 3 times, rather than iterating on an existing codebase Shifted language and tools multiple times Failed to release updates in a reasonable time; at several points, they were so slow features they announced were introduced by competitors first Constantly released budget phones rather than flagship-tier phones (flagship phones generate more excitement) Made deals with carriers where the carriers failed to uphold their promises, giving almost zero promotion and had employees actively turn customers away from the platform Removed features as the platform matured Had a weak browser with no alternatives Promised upgrades to newer OSes for existing devices, before pulling out of that promise last minute Thought that because "Oh, it's branded Windows!" people would automatically love it, without ever thinking what people actually think of the Windows brand and their expectations for Windows Had the completely wrong idea of how people use their smartphones I honestly wonder why people are excited about this "Andromeda" device that Microsoft-centric sites keep talking about. Microsoft kept screwing over Windows Phone users time and time again. Why would you want to give them more money for another thing that will inevitably fail and get killed off?
