6 days ago, two months have passed since I ordered an ASUS TUF RTX 3080. I ordered it at an MSRP of $699 (plus 23% VAT in EU).
I still haven't received the card, despite the fact that I ordered it around 25-30 minutes after it went for sale on launch day... Now the same card at the same retailer is priced at around $1050, but at least for a short time it was available to order for the MSRP.
NVIDIA's CEO saying the RTX 3000 series had a "demand" issue, not a supply one is a giant joke, since they can't even fulfil day 1 orders for over two damn months.
 
Since then, seems like online retailers realized they can scalp even more money from people, so when the RX 6800 series cards went for sale, they were never listed at their MSRP, but their prices were hiked up right away. So a reference 6800XT which should be around $50 cheaper than the cheapest 3080, was listed at $915 and then sold out right away.
 
Fuck 2020, there's bad news from every possible angle... Let's hope for a better 2021!

So I discovered an interesting thing regarding the recent RTX 3080 Capacitor fiasco and the ASUS TUF model.

In the original investigation regarding the various capacitor configurations, the author noted that the ASUS TUF one (which I coincidentally ordered) won't have issues because it has six MLCC groups that look like this:


But, most retailers have the pictures of the card that have regular capacitors, like the picture here (taken from Newegg):


Which clearly shows 6 regular, large capacitors. This is the same for retailers in my country.

Now ASUS on their website has a picture, that's already refreshed with the MLCCs:



Which means they caught the problem early, and actually changed those capacitors on their GPUs after they sent out GPU pictures to their distribution chain.

I got lucky with my choice, because there shouldn't be an issue with the TUF card because of that. But I feel for people who ordered worse models or already received them and have those crashes.

Nvidia wouldn't be Nvidia if they didn't do... Nvidia, right?

Managed to order an ASUS RTX 3080 TUF GAMING for an MSRP price before it went out of stock where I live, the alternatives for the price were MSI Ventus 3x and Gigabyte Eagle - both hideous and apparently worse

Seems like a good purchase, although aesthetically my MSI GTX 1080Ti GAMING X TRIO destroys it in every measurable way...

A little sneak peek before I post better pics of my rig after recent upgrades...

Today i fixed Phanteks mistake on what is otherwise an awesome case...finally it can breath!
The dust filter is magnetic and thus you can pick it and wash it. I also went with red corsair SP120 to make it shine...
it looks and works great!
