MadGoatHaz got a reaction from ohrightnoob in Can an ssd have both sata and esata connectors?
Esata connection is simply a normal sata port with a bit more robust connection for use external of the computer (hence the "E" in esata). The drive being a sata drive is therefore also esata compatible.

No worries, the drive will be compatible with your use case.

Best of luck and enjoy your new PS4 storage. 👍

Set fPS limit 4 to 6 FPS lower than your refresh rate and enable GSYnc and in game also enable VSync.

Just as a "covering all bases" thing, run memtest. Can't hurt

Do you still experience those when you disable the software that puts those overlays over the game? (or straight up uninstalling it, software could still run as service in background even when the actual application is shut down)

MadGoatHaz reacted to Spindel in Report suggests many Gen Z students do not know how to use a basic file directory
Well already 20 years ago the talks was about moving away from the "classic" folder structure and just dump all files into one big pile to then sort and search for them by metadata tags.

Looks like we might now be approaching this 🙂

And no what I mentioned above is not stupid, because letting metadata dictate how it's shown is much more flexible than a folder system (at least in theory) since it allows you to reach and display files in multiple ways instead of one fixed folder system.

Lets say software A just dumps a bunch of files with this kind of system on your HDD. Each file still gets a metadata tag that it belongs to software A so if you want to see software As files you just sort for files from software A. I only want config files for software A, sort by only config metadata and software A etc. Also this way makes it easy to retrieve all files from software A in example when you want to remove it instead of how it is (most often) today where the files for software A is exploded on a variety of folders, in classic folder structures, outside the softwares main folder.

MadGoatHaz reacted to TechSloth in Can i use 3000mhz ram stick with 3200mhz ram in dual channel ?
i believe there was a vido on this a few months back, basically yes, the ram speed will be the same as teh slower stick though, so where you get the benefits of another 8GB of ram you wont get the full 3200mhz out of it.

The reason I said those recommendations is because I'm a lot more similar to you than I would care to admit.  I know exactly what it's like and I know *PRECISELY* where it leads to.  You do NOT want to end up doing some of the things I've done.  You don't even want to KNOW some of the things I've done.  If I could have answered your questions, I would have.  But you cant answer questions when your own brain is playing tricks on you because your emotions/ego/need for security (and predictability / consistency / stability) are unable to accept things (very often because of past trauma, often because of even worse things that require a professional's help.  Trust me please).  This is why giving therapeutic recommendations and even asking questions of this type are very taboo here (mods usually get involved when they see these and tell people to find a doctor/professional).

As far as your other question, this is next to impossible on modern hardware.  Cards often just end up just crashing and black screening or rebooting your computer these days, and even worse, some programs may show "instability" while other programs won't.  If a card is defective, EVERYTHING will crash or show instability.  No there's no precise test for this (unlike Prime95 30.3 Large FFT (AVX disabled) for Rocket Lake DDR4/CPU stability or Small FFT for CML CPU stability, Testmem5 anta777 (for Comet lake DDR4 stability), and so on).

Maybe try OCCT (registered version)?  I don't know sorry.

Have my crucial ballistix 2x16 running 3800 (micron E-die). Takes time and patience to figure timings, voltage and find stability. Worth it to run symmetric infinity fabric though.

MadGoatHaz reacted to Tan3l6 in i bought tn panel monitor by mistake, should i return it and get ips or is tn good enough with colors
The colors of many newer TN's aren't awful, but the horizontal viewing angles are still remarkably bad.
I'd prefer IPS, then VA and lastly TN panel monitors. Yet there are quite well reviewed high end VA's that compete and in some parts exceed IPS, like Samsung Odyssey G7.
VA panels have usually the best contrast. I'm content with most IPS contrast.

    I have a kit of Crucial ballistix sport LT rated 3000 15-16-16-16-35 1.35v that ran 3733 15-19-16-16-35 1.39v.
The ddr4 oc guide mentioned above is a great resource.
Y-cruncher can be useful for stability testing, recommend it before running longer tests because it's fast and can catch things other tests might miss. (benchmark pi, multi-thread, highest amount not exceeding ram capacity)

MadGoatHaz got a reaction from EClinus1999 in It is worth upgrading (based on my specs) from a Ryzen 1700 to 3700x or should I wait for prices to go down or Ryzen 6th gen comes out?
I'd like to turn your attention to what you "need / want" vs. what the industry is suggesting you need.

What is your current configuration not doing that you'd want it to do?

It is not necessary in the slightest to upgrade to windows 11 in any near future. Many people infact won't be upgrading for quite a while, instead allowing windows 11 to bake and prove it's reliability.

Furthermore, your board can support Zen 3. If you need /want and upgrade. A 5600x or 5800x would do you nicely for a couple years.

MadGoatHaz reacted to Levent in Windows 11: Will you be upgrading?
I very much disagree with that statement. As someone who religiously used latest software up until the release of windows 10, I can list many points on why windows 10 is the worst operating system Microsoft ever released. I can also argue that windows 10 was not a finished product before 1809 release which was released in October 2018, 3 years after it's first release. Windows 7 and even 8 were miles ahead when it came to overal stability.

Very careful use of a heat gun. Start further away from the board than you initially think. Reflow that solder.
