    Here we can clearly see why I think it is stupid to call the M1 an "8 core processor".
    The parts labeled "CPU 1" are the high performance Firestorm cores. The parts labeled "CPU 2" are the efficiency focused Icestorm cores. 
    You can literally fit all 4 Icestorm cores (not including the shared logics) in the same die space as a single firestorm core.
     
    It would be interesting to see how much extra performance you get from running all 8 cores vs only the 4 firestorm cores. My guess is that the four icestorm cores doesn't even result in a 20% performance increase.
