I don't draw on mobile devices, so don't have personal experiences with any of these though.

rest assured CRTs are perfectly safe to use normally.
You'll hear some horror stories now and then, like the time a very old and defective CRT TV knocked out a small villages internet every time the user turned it in on after getting home from work. (was actually a funny story).
But beyond that, its fine, just like how some people are convinced the average mobile phone will give u cancer, some of those who have never lived with a CRT will have some odd theories about them.

Thinking over the GPU shortage and it's effects on the industry last night on a visit to Micro Center it occurred to me that there is a critical issue no one is talking about.   Many of us who game or who just use a computer with a good graphics card from the 10 series have had them running 16-24 hours per day for up to 5-6 years now.  Some of them bought used after crypto mining.

The electronics on the cards are solid state non moving parts.  Whiley the can wear out due to thermal stresses, repeated power cycles etc a solid state device will more or less function as long as it has power and avoids physical destruction.

The bearings in the GPU fans are another matter.  Like all mechanical systems they wear out over time.  They have a certain design lifetime, and a certain design usage of so many hours before failure their  "Mean Time Between failures".  This is a spec people who computed when hard drives were all over the place will remember.

There is some pretty formal research on this issue in general.
How to evaluate fan life | Electronics Cooling (electronics-cooling.com) by Sung J. Kim and Alan Claassen IBM storage systems division.

Video Card Failure Rates by Generation (pugetsystems.com)  Matt bach of Puget systems

Then FWIW there is this old thread from the before time 2018
How long will a GTX 1080 last? - Graphics Cards - Linus Tech Tips  Where the opinion is given that it should last 6-7 years.

From what I can tell the Mean time between failures for a GPU fan or similar device of around 50,000 hours is considered acceptable.  That works out to 5.7 years and matches the general consensus from the above.

This may we will be reaching that 6 year mark for when one can expect their GPU fan failing or starting to show signs of failure, more noise, less efficiency even when cleaned well, or even being a total loss.   Which is even worse now since many are not running computers with some form of on board IGP, or APU, and have no fall back position.

Given the situation we are in right now with replacement GPU's rarer than hens teeth and all manufacturing slowed down are we all on borrowed time?   Are just feeling the start of a sort of GPU apocalypse? Can't buy one and the used ones are all mechanically ready to fail.  If so what should be done about it?

You are absolutely not getting 6th or 7th gen for $150, especially in this market.

Your best bet is an old Sandy Bridge Optiplex (or X58 setup of some sort, if you're lucky) with a cheap GPU (RX 470/480/570/580) and some other small bits like an SSD and maybe RAM upgrade.

As for the build, $100-150 isn't really enough to build anything.

When it comes to cables, audio especially, it often makes sense to pay a little extra for quality. Bad audio cables can cause problems and so its important that the ones that you have are high quality.

All I can say is if you care about reliable Internet, don't skimp on your router.  Budget routers can bring all sorts of problems.

DDoS protection in a router is practically worthless however, as even if your router blocks connections they still take up CPU time and bandwidth, which is where a DDoS occurs.  DDoS protection has to be performed further up the chain, at your ISP, to have any protective impact on your much smaller broadband link.  This is why companies like Cloudflare have massive amounts of bandwidth and insanely powerful routers, much more than they would otherwise actually need, so they can absorb DDoS attacks.

F350 is better than F150, right?  What if the F350 is from 1989 and the F150 is 2020?

The fact you do not understand generations of products is something you will NEED to learn as you become a consumer.

Kanna reacted to SupaKomputa in Confusing CPU names: Why is Ryzen 5 better than 7
CPU numbering is only related to the same generation.
Is to put a classification on the target performance / price.
3 for super cheap 2-4 cores
5 for i want performance but not to expensive ,5 to 6 cores.
7 for moar cores tha better,8 cores
    9 for ultra fancy ,12 - 16 cores.
Now you must be confuse how a Ryzen 5 5600x be better than a Ryzen 7 3700x.
Because it is much better if you calculate the raw performance.
1 cores of the 5600x is around 1.3x single core of the 3700x so if you sum it up it would perform on par or better.
Back to the classifications it is still considered Ryzen 5 not Ryzen 7 because of the amount of cores it has.

Kanna reacted to Dedayog in Confusing CPU names: Why is Ryzen 5 better than 7
Ryzen 5 is the Tier.  Ryzen 7 is the more powerful tier above that.  Then Ryzen 9, etc.

    What are you asking specifically?

Prebuild can have different PSU connector. They probably use the new PSU standard which has only 12v cables. (linus make a video about it recently).
They can use their own motherboard design that doesn't comply with ATX standard.

I don't think there were any 3-device IDE controllers, so you can only do 2 at a time on one controller.
If you have 2 IDE controllers, though, you can put one drive on its own controller.

The o11 mini doesn't support a triple rad. 3 fans sure but those just fit there is barely any extra space at all. You cannot overclock at all as your current psu is just enough for the system with just enough overhead for 3080 spikes.
