PyroTheWise reacted to Phantomx60 in Crucial MX500 2TB SSD - Yes or No? - Amazon Prime Day Deal
@PyroTheWise@TheDailyProcrastinator Also, just found this review from 2018 ( https://www.relaxedtech.com/reviews/crucial/mx500/1 ) about the MX500 which actually mentions DRAM is on all the size variants, one bit mentions the DRAM chip is there.

Did you take into account the Operating System, data files, temp files from browsing the internet?   So many places to each up a small drive like that.

In my opinion, I would wait for the new AMD cards and see from there.   The 2060 is still a good card to hold you for a few more months.

Here is the PSU tier listing ->

You can review the higher tier PSUs and see if any of the are avaialble in your price range.

As far as "will a 650W work"...   We would need to know the rest of the PC components in order to provide better advice.

I would look at replacing the PSU.   They do not last forever and will fail eventually.   I am not saying rush out and buy one.    You can wait for a sale or stock of the PSU you want to come back in stock.

My advice, backup your data you don't want to lose and start looking for a new HDD.   Sounds to me like it is starting to fail.

PyroTheWise got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Ryzen 5 3600 Bottleneck
As an example I run a R5 3600 and my normal idle temps are 35-40C.  Even when I was using the stock cooler, I never got temps that high.

You really should remount the stock CPU cooler.  Something is not right with the installation of the CPU cooler.   Cou you take a picture with the glass side panel removed and from an angle where we can see how it is actually installed?  The top down view doesn't help very much.

Here is a screenshot of my Ryzen 5 3600 at idle (only Discord and web browsers are running):

I run a Ryzen 5 3600, 2070 Super, 32GB ram on a 550W PSU.   Your system should also work with a 550W as well.  It will not hurt anything if you want to use a 650 Watt PSU.

I am no PSU expert so I can't really say which one is better than the others.   I use a CV550M in my system.

I do believe you are in for a rude awakening.  Everything is built with planned obsolesce.   Nothing is going to last as long as the old stuff.

Also, you do not mention the motherboard you have.  I am curious as to which MSI motherboard you have that has failed.

PyroTheWise got a reaction from Romain337 in NVIdia Ansel
I did get sort of an answer back from Nvidia about it being a bug but not a bug.

I actually figured out the problem later.  The main game where that keeps popping up has a Registry entry pointing to want to use ansel.    NVidia is allowing the prompt to show even if the software is not installed.

So basically it is a prompt that doesn't and will not work.   The Ansel directories I found were from MS auto installing a really old version of the driver that included ansel.

Thank you for the reply @Romain337

You can quick format the drive - that will remove them.

Otherwise, you will need to grant yourself permission using the security tab and inheritance (go back to the parent directory).

PyroTheWise got a reaction from BradIJM in AMD 3600 running hot on stock cooler
I have a Ryzen 5 3600 using an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo CPU fan cooler.  My idle temps are usually 35-40c.   My normal gaming loads don't push it much higher either.   The Arctic cpu cooler is also fairly quiet as well and easy to manage in the BIOS.  They are PWM fans.

If you are worried about the temps, don't go overboard on a water cooler unless you just want to.   There are great Air CPU coolers that will work just as efficient as the water coolers.

Here is a screen shot of my temperatures using the Arctic cooler under light load (running discord, web-browser multiple tabs).  Nothing demanding:

When I am running games like Elite Dangerous, MechWarrior 5 the temps will go up but they stay well in check.  I keep monitoring it just in case.

PyroTheWise got a reaction from Sixshot in Need advice on cpu cooler.
As @TofuHaroto said, try out the stock CPU cooler that comes with the CPU.  It will keep the temps under control.   The only reason to switch to an aftermarket cooler would be for noise issues.  My stock CPU cooler was quite noisy (worked just fine though).   So in my opinion, it is best to try out the stock CPU cooler first and if it doesn't work as well as you want (i.e. due to noise or anything else) then buy an aftermarket CPU cooler.   They are easy to swap out and this way you aren't wasting any money.

PyroTheWise got a reaction from Ayush007 in Best monitor for ps5 ( should I buy or not )
I would pair the PS5 with a HDR TV that supports 60fps.  The PS5 will not go higher than 60fps.  Using a 120/144hz monitor will be a waste because developers will assume you are playing on a TV.   The consoles are generally developed with the idea you are using a TV so I do not expect developers to be creating 144hz experiences on the PS5.   I expect them to restrict to 4k HDR 30fps usually with the occasional game at 60fps.

However, this is just my opinion based on the years of gaming on a PS2, PS3, PS4.

There is no way for me to tell you with 100% certainty what died.   It could have been the CPU fan components which means you won;t be able to control the fan or it could have been the CPU itself or both.  There is just no way to tell honestly.

If there was smoke then something died.   What died and how crucial it is to the running of your system - I don't know.

Just be prepared for some testing once you get enough parts to setup your computer.

PyroTheWise reacted to Eigenvektor in Use Windows Computer for Time Machine?
Macs either use APFS or the older HFS+. Windows uses NTFS. Best option for interoperability is probably FAT32 or exFAT.

However, in general Macs can access SMB shares, and they should be able to read/write NTFS (with additional software), just like Linux can these days. I'm not exactly sure why Time Machine insists on HFS+ (or APFS). I assume it has some feature that makes it better suited and Apple doesn't want to compromise on.

The big advantage of Time Machine is that it's really simple to set up and it backs up everything. Buy a replacement machine, restore from backup, it's exactly like the old one. At work we wipe machines before they are sent for repair. When they return you can restore the backup and it's like the machine was never gone. I've never found something equally painless for Windows/Linux (which I use at home).

PyroTheWise reacted to Eigenvektor in Use Windows Computer for Time Machine?
The problem is Time Machine requires a HFS+ partition, which is not something WIndows supports. So you have to create a container on the network drive that the Mac can then mount. The article(s) I've linked to describe how to do it.

I've done it before. It was horribly slow.

Right now PC parts can be hard to find and some markups due to the pandemic.  Also, newer CPUs are being release along with GPUs by the end of the year.
