Mark Kaine reacted to rickeo in Windows 10 won't let me install a custom driver for my AMD Radeon Graphics
@SchredI want to reiterate that you really should stop whatever you're doing and absolutely do NOT follow any unsigning procedure to install some unknown driver from a shady service.

If you were having problems before, you will have many, many more if you go through with that.

The ONLY place you should download a driver for that AMD GPU is here:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support

Failing that in some weird situations, the laptop manufacturers support page. No where else.

Mark Kaine reacted to LogicalDrm in Aliexpress (new) GPU
Aliexpress is eBay-like marketplace, operating under Alibaba (wholesale site). The sellers and brands who have been long in business are reliable. I have got some really good stuff from there. Like for charger cables its better than buying same cables for double the price.

Hating on one marketplace site, but not others is just weird.

well if you don't buy it someone else will, it's a dog eat dog world.
Aliexpress is a marketplace like ebay or amazon, there are good and bad seller, just be cautious.
Definitely don't buy from that shop, no customer, no products, i wont even risk $5 on that shop.

Mark Kaine reacted to 8-Bit Ninja in Removing a glued backplate
There's no risk of damaging the board through ESD with a heat gun, you can put too much heat into the board and cause the layers to delaminate however.

Mark Kaine reacted to RAS_3885 in Removing a glued backplate
It looks to me like the three silver screws used to anchor the CPU retention system are also attached to the backplate in question. So, in essence, it's still bolted to the board from what I can see.

Hi, so everytime there's a power outage at my house while the pc is on, my pc would not turn on afterwards. Its literally dead, no fan spinning no leds on. This happened like 4/5 times and everytime it happened, i gotta take it to a technician to get it jumpstarted. Is there anyway i could jumpstart it by myself? or what should i do to avoid it happening again? tried the screwdriver to pins trick, didnt work. I dont think it has anything to do with my power supply cause ive gotten it checked. im also using a surge protector.

    Motherboard: asrock b365 pro 4
    psu; corsair cx550

EDIT: i reset the cmos and it worked. thank you all so much who had given me a lot of infos

Mark Kaine reacted to DigitalGoat in Steam Icons for all shortcuts are missing after Windows 10 Reset
Try right-clicking one of the icons and associate it with Edge, I had this issue after uninstalling IE, which is what the icons are normally associated with (they are an URL type), it is possible the latest install media for Windows removes IE now in favour of Edge. Think I remember hearing somewhere MS would do that.

Mark Kaine reacted to Analog in low fps in valorant?? pls im so confused
If you don't have a high-refresh rate screen, why would you need to have the game run with hundreds of FPS?

To answer your question, I doubt that overclocking will make that much of a difference. I mean you will certainly see a performance bump, but probably not as much as you wish. You probably will need to upgrade your processor to something that has significantly more power. What motherboard do you have?

Mark Kaine reacted to djenson in Dell 2080 TI from Alienware area 51 is underperforming like crazy
I know its kinda stupid, but you could go into MSI afterburner, set fan too 100% and rerun the scores seeing if there any better. gonna sound like a jet engine lol. My blower card was limiting the fan speed and throttling instead properly for quietness.

Mark Kaine reacted to -rascal- in Dell 2080 TI from Alienware area 51 is underperforming like crazy
ThreadRipper has no iGPU; the motherboard DOESN'T even have output ports on it.

Curious, what temperatures are you getting on the RTX 2080 Ti?
I'm not talking about JUST GPU Core temperature, I'm saying VRAM and VRM (e.g. power phases) temperatures as well.

The Gigabyte P-GM PSU is not great; it's actually plagued with a couple issues.
Believe or not, Gamers Nexus "Tech Jesus" is asking GP-P850GM and GP-P750GM users to contact them.
They are investigating the PSU failure, and burning cables issue.

PSU falls under the 'Tier-E -- Potentially dangerous in multiple scenarios' category in the LTT PSU Tier List.

It doesn't cost $1000 to improve airflow.
    New case like a Phanteks P400A / P500A Digital is.... $100 ~ $130?
Before doing any case buying / swapping, just take the side panel off the NZXT H510.
If temperatures drop by a noticeable amount, THEN you know case airflow is a question.

Mark Kaine reacted to jonnyGURU in Power Supply blew out my motherboard. Will EVGA cover it?
So, I know for Corsair for example, and probably many others, in order to properly "budget" for damage claims, you simply get an insurance policy specifically to cover costs incurred by your own products.  I think it's called "General Liability Insurance".  Works just like car or home insurance.  You pay every month, hope you never need it, then you wreck your car, the washing machine floods or your power supply catches someone's motherboard on fire.  😄

agreed it is, because it doesn't do that with the right settings (which may be difficult to figure out admittedly but isn't rocket science either, my defender settings are close to the default and it's never deleted anything without asking me how to proceed first)

edit: idk on top of my head, but can post em later, there's really just a few things you need to change - if that's even required I can't remember it ever just deleting stuff or not notify me about 'malicious software' it found.

But if nothing is wrong, what you are trying to fix? You need to understand what the problem is before trying to fix it. Wifi issues do not justify replacing psu, motherboard or cpu.

There is something really shady going on here. Just to be sure, have you tried a different outlet in your house? Also I would recommend finding another technician that can actually explain you what is he doing. My guy always explains me what in the world is he doing when I bring something in.

Mark Kaine got a reaction from GijsCollet in Crazy Europe prices
Well, technically that is what stores do... last gen wasn't all that different, except availability was better and prices a little less outrageous - I paid 330 for a 1060 from Amazon, sold by Amazon 2 years ago for example - and that was *cheap* most other offers were like 370 and up!

Amazon also sold 1070 cards for around 600 euros just in October - are they now scalpers? well yes, of course, but do we call them like that? no, obviously not, they're 'retailers', different words, same difference lol.

    Hope this helps!
