One of my friends told me he was in a presentation and he saw two lads doing a presentation on work placement.

They outlined they wanted to upgrade some of the computers to "gaming pc's". When asked how they will be different, one of the guys replied.

"They will have Nevada graphics cards"

    I don't hate apple.

Some of the reasons people hate Apple include.
The premium price tag,Closed nature, OSX.

I am  sceptical to believe however that your class are now better artists because your school bought macs I would argue they had to have talent to begin with.
Two of my friends are artists one of them creates manga the other does commission work, both of them are talented one uses windows one uses osx. I don't believe you need OSX to be good at your job if you are in the arts industry.

This is a perfect example of selling out.

Back when Vessel was announced, Linus made sure to state, over and over, that the content was just going to be early access, and he would still upload to YouTube. To quote Linus "everything we release will still go on YouTube as well", and "all Linus Media Group content will continue to be available for free and ad supported on both YouTube and Vessel" and I am fairly sure he said similar things in other videos and posts as well.

Then Vessel offers him money and oops, all of a sudden all the previous statements were just "badly worded" and no longer true. When it was convenient for him to say the content would go up on YouTube (back when people were very skeptical of Vessel) he said just that, but now when things has changed and he can make more money, he goes against it. That is selling out.

I will neither enjoy this new series (because I won't renew Vessel) and I won't pretend like it was never made because I was lied to, and so were you. If you are fine with being lied to then good for you I guess. What bothers me though is this sleazy attitude Linus has where he is going "oh it was just badly worded and miscommunication" instead of being honest and saying it how it actually is. The circumstances has changed and he is going back on his words.

    Edit:
People seem to have this really backwards idea that anyone who criticizes a decision is a hater who just wants to hate. The exact opposite is true. The people voicing their opinions regarding bad decisions are the fans that truly cares. "The opposite of love is not hate. It's indifference", and I see a lot of people being indifferent in this thread.

No, that would be a shill. Shilling and selling out are two different things.

Shill: a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty.
Sellout: a person who compromises his or her personal values, integrity, talent, or the like, for money or personal advancement.

Because nobody at Netflix ever went "yeah, all our Netflix shows will be free and available on other platforms at no extra cost" just a year before doing a 180 turn.

It's more of the fact that he blatantly lied then said "Oh it was just poor wording." No. You said that stuff on vessel would not stay exclusive to it, and that it would be released to youtube. This was on the WAN show when vessel was first being adopted.

    Don't depend blatant lies.

Nice strawman. I never said anything about having "the right" to all the content. I already addressed that earlier in the thread.

The difference between "all the other content he has created for clients", such as the Intel training videos are not targeted at his average viewers. These Vessel exclusive videos are however targeted at that audience.
"Hiding" video that won't interests your viewers = okay
Putting videos that would interest your viewers behind a paywall, despite having repeatedly said that it would not happen in the past = not okay

    See the difference?

Nice mental gymnastics. You should apply for the Olympics. Sadly, Linus never said his statements only applied to "normal LTT content". He said it applied to all content.

No. He laid it on thick that he mean in the future it wouldn't be exclusive. Then claims that it was just poor phrasing. He made it very clear in a couple WAN shows.

I really don't understand why you even wrote the first part of your post. If someone says "we will upload all content to YouTube", then proceeds to not upload all the content to YouTube, then they broke their word. Of course it was created for Vessel, since it is a Vessel exclusive thing. Obviously it was not created for YouTube since it isn't on YouTube. That still does not matter though. They still broke their word that they would not make exclusive content for Vessel. Back when everyone was freaking out that Linus would upload videos to Vessel he repeatedly said that all content would still be uploaded to YouTube. He did not say "all normal LTT videos". He said all content. He did not just say it once and it was poorly worded either. He said the same thing in multiple ways in different videos, on Twitter, on live streams etc. I find it hard to believe that he had plans to make exclusive content for Vessel back then, and then just happened to "word it poorly" in every single instance he talked about it. I can give him that he might have worded it poorly once, but not that many times.

I do understand business. I completely understand that Linus went back on his word because he could profit from it. That's business. What I don't like is that he pretends like this was planned all along and we viewers just misunderstood his previous statements, which we clearly didn't. Back then he tried to calm people down because people were worried this exact situation would happen. He said what he needed to say to calm people down. Now that people have calmed down he is fully willing to put content behind a paywall though. You might call it "how business works", but I call it being dishonest (those two words are basically synonyms).

If he had just said "yep I didn't expect things to turn out like this, but Vessel made me a very attractive offer I just didn't want to turn down" then I would have been less upset. It's the "oh that statement from a year ago was poorly worded" bullshit that makes me mad.

It is different because the other work LMG has done such as the videos for Intel were not targeted at the usual audience. These nerd sport videos however are targeted at the same audience as their usual videos. Even Vessel made the mistake to think that it was a ChannelSuperFun video. If you can't see the difference in target audience then I am not sure what to say.
Do you see anyone here upset over not being able to watch those training videos? Of course you don't, because it's content people don't care about. This new series however is something people care about.

So that's how it is different. The target audience is different, and that is EXTREMELY important. Since you claim to know how businesses work, you should understand that.
You might have missed it so I will post it again:
Do you honestly not see the difference?

Nope, that is not at all what I am saying, at all. I don't know why both you and KWelz keep saying this. Are you making shitty strawman arguments, not reading my posts properly or am I just really bad at articulating my point?

I AM NOT SAYING ALL CONTENT SHOULD BE FREE. I AM SAYING THAT LINUS BACKED ON HIS WORD BUT WON'T ADMIT IT. INSTEAD HE IS GIVING US BULLSHIT LIKE "It was poorly worded"!

He either changed his mind, or deceived us from the start. I am leaning towards the former, but for some reason he pretends like it was planned from the start and he just worded it poorly. Again, I could understand if it was just one post being worded poorly and people misunderstood it, but it happened several times. Whenever someone brought up potentially exclusive content he said that all content would be free to view with ads, just delayed compared to Vessel.

Oh, I guess I don't have any common sense then, since I assumed "all LMG content" actually meant "all LMG content". Obviously I should have known that "all LMG content" actually meant "some LMG content but not all". Or that "everything we release" actually meant "not everything we release".
I have to admit that English is my secondary language, so maybe I don't fully understand the meaning of the words "all" and "everything".

Nobody is entitled to free shit, but all you're doing is changing the subject because you don't like to admit it: he fucking lied about it. So did fucking Logan, Vessel is making fucking liars out of all tech youtubers in fact. But that doesn't absolves them of responsibility for taking up the shaddy fucking deals.

This is probably the most important point that people seem to be avoiding.

It doesn't matter how they try to spin it at this point, whether or not they own the series. They fucked up.
The man didn't word it wrong, he just changed his mind and made a liar out of himself. Time and time again he insisted that he wouldn't do paid-exclusive videos.

Vessel however didn't make a liars out of anyone, the creators could turn it down if they wanted too. They're not going bankrupt without this money they're gonna be making now. They just plain old lied.

He's not contradicting himself, he's been pretty rigid on this. He believes "Nerd Sports" is LMG content in all but name, because it's purpose is to appeal to LMG viewers on vessel, to retain them on the platform beyond the 12 month free period. He believes that the "always free" standard Linus himself set, has been undermined. He then stated Linus has either changed his mind and not been upfront and honest about it, or, Linus has been somewhat disingenuous.

You disagree. And believe Nerd Sports to be totally separate content produced specifically for Vessel, which is not held to the same "always free" standard.

    Both stances have merits.

I pay for netflix , I pay for google music, I pay for crunchyroll, I pay for the wwe network (don't judge me, the korean countryside was pretty boring. I would have paid for vessel except this genuinely feels like a cheap shot to keep the platform from bleeding subscribers at the end of the trial year. I jumped on the vessel bandwagon pretty early because Linus has assured us multiple times the content would be available on both platforms. Vessel have made an arse of public relations for LMG time and time again now this time they link this new series to an existing channel that linus had setup a patreon for under the ruse that it is too expensive to run.

It just feels like as a company all they have done is ask for donations while accepting corporate cash on the side. Not something I object to but I do question the honesty of mr tech tips when his word means nothing. Mr Tech Tips has also said how 20'000 is nothing for the company if it is the cost of doing business however these CSF videos using 200$ worth of props are too expensive to produce and they can't spare the man power. Honestly I could believe they were short on man power considering how low quality and low effort the videos have been, but hey it turns out they have been screwing over the regular consumers to produce content most of their consumers won't see.  Maybe you should stop taking on long expansive projects until you can get your standard quality back up to an acceptable level.

Lets just pause for a moment and accept that the team worked overtime to get the job done without breaking the current schedule, can we just observe what happens when staff are overworked and exhausted, quality and performance drop. Why on earth did you take on such an expansive project without the man power to complete it properly.

Maybe its a talent pool problem..
You are in BC right? The media industry is huge there, are you honestly telling me you can find people who can help produce content. I have several friends working in the media industry who  try to make a name for themselves as hardworking people. Surely you can't have exhausted the talent pool not saying the people I know are right for the job just using it to explain how I know how vast the talent pool actually is.

This post is pretty all over the place because there has been a lot of things bugging me about LTT of late and this just pushed me over the edge.
As I said in the beginning , I'm not too cheap to pay for content I enjoy. But I don't like feeling tricked or lied to. Sure me not watching this content will hardly effect the bottom line for the LMG accounts but I hope you remember going forward Linus how willing will these companies be to spend large amounts of money on content without a return on investment sure you get an nice paycheck I just hope its worth bleeding fans.

I suppose at the end of the day you get closer to that Lambo who cares what the brand actually means.

What's wrong with the Windows Store? Both EA and Ubisoft now distribute their titles thorugh their own platform, but when Microsoft does it, everybody loses their minds. It's a Windows 10 exclusive anyway. I get it, you like Steam because of its features, but I'm sure MS will sooner or later make something similar to the exisiting platforms, with a social network, in-game overlay and achievements.

I only see upsides. Steam DRM validation is slow, if steam is closed, it takes a long time to startup the game. It would promotes a monopoly. Steam has been going downhill due to lack of competition. Game shortcuts made by Steam can't be pinned on the task bar or start menu, because Valve has never fixed their invalid shortcuts bug since Steam started.

It can be added to the Steam games list as a non-Steam game.

    - You mean the pain the neck, "I will do anything for you to not your refund easily" Steam service? Might as well not exists (in my opinion).
    - You can add games to Steam
    - Real friends knows who you are, and they can join you. If they have Windows 10, with a MS account, they are on XBox service.
    - You do have sales on the Windows Store if you bother looking.
    - The internet is where you look for troubleshooting in any case.
