Dredgy got a reaction from Kilrah in LTT shipping cost to JAPAN
You can, just put some items in your cart and checkout. You will get the total value before you pay. Won’t be cheap.

Dredgy got a reaction from Kilrah in HTML5 Replacing Adobe Flash
Flash has been effectively dead on the web for a decade or so. Anybody who hasn't updated their systems from Flash has had 8-10 years to do so so you should probably stop using their service.
If you must use Flash content you will need to keep an older browser on hand.

Dredgy got a reaction from paddy-stone in What's on your "to do" list for projects? hardware/software related
I’ve not programmed in a long time, so I’ve been delving into a few new areas and brushing up on old ones.
I really want to master F#. Starting writing a GUI framework for it the other day and it’s looking super promising, though still need some real world app ideas to really delve into the pure functional stuff. Since Crash 4 isn’t coming to PC I’m probably going to develop my own corridor-style platformer. I might even do it in F#. Upgrade monitor setup to Eizo EV2730Q and some for of super ultra wide. -
Dredgy got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in Companies you avoid, and why...
Samsung. Premature failure rate of products has been insane - smartphones, dumbphones, TVs, optical drives, hard drives, microwaves, air conditioners etc... So far I have had luck with their SSDs, but they’re still all well within warranty period. Asus. Their enterprise support was so bad, and ruined an enormous project, that a hurricane hitting and wiping out my business was a Godsend because it meant I had an excuse (and an insurance payout) Google. Obviously I have an account but I’m pretty reticent on using it, except for YouTube. Facebook for similar reasons.

It’s an important cause.

Dredgy got a reaction from SpaceGhostC2C in Your unpopular (non-political, non-offensive) opinions!
Hence “opinion”. But I’ve watched the LTT tests - and a few others. it shows that there is an increased performance on higher refresh rates, it doesn’t show that people in general prefer that over a super immersive experience.

I’ll keep it tech related.
High frame rate is one of the least important things in gaming. Good colours, detail, contrast, brightness, audio solution and peripherals are much more important areas to spend money. Super Mario Galaxy is a mediocre game, -
Dredgy got a reaction from Unclescar in Several incredibly wealthy youtubers claim covid relief funding.
Advertising revenue was wayyyy down during the peak of the pandemic.
And video production is another industry that’s still largely shut down, so if they had money spent on shoots that never ended up happening or staff can’t congregate etc. There’s a lot of ways a large YouTube channel that employs multiple people could be significantly effected.

Dredgy got a reaction from HanZie82 in Current LTT Camera
They have a wide mix.
The primaries are Red Weapon 8Ks and Canon C200s, but they have plenty of others as secondaries. They’ve bought 6 Blackmagic URSA 12Ks with intentions to replace the Reds, but given Blackmagics tendency for...issues...it’s unknown if that will actually happen of if they’ll just use them as backups or sell them on.

Dredgy got a reaction from Origami Cactus in Movie studio camera equipment
RED is uncommon in the cinema world, though is more common on high end television/streaming. Arri film cameras and equivalent are the main cinema choices.
Film is a superior acquisition format to digital - a digital recording has a fixed resolution which isn’t very futureproof, whereas film can be rescanned to high resolution.
For instance, in the early 2000s a lot of television started to be shot in digital - at 480p or 576p, and videotape before that. These recordings can never be effectively upscaled and released on BluRay.
Whereas anything shot on analog film could be rescanned. Hence why movies from the 70s can still be released on 4K BluRay and make money.
Movies shot on RED now might look great now, but when 100K is the standard for television an 8K recording might not scale up very well, whereas you’d be able to get a useable image by rescanning a film to 100K.
Among other reasons of course - such as RED being fairly well known to be fairly unreliable and not offer great support.
