I have an NVIDIA P117 (Dell OEM) that runs through AGP 8x just in case it's ever needed (no desktops in me home).

640MB of DDR RAM in a little baggie...

    3 Floppy Disks....

And even though Linus will *probably* hate on me for this, I use VGA for my external laptop monitor.  B)

My grandpa actually said he liked his computer to be nice and slow.
I tried explaining to him in Chinese about USB 3, and he thought that connected his wireless mouse to the USB 3 port on his laptop would make it faster.

The printer in the library beeped and reported no paper. The kid printing went off to reprint his document.

I showed my computer teacher the titan z. He said that he would show his enrichment class the picture later. I asked a girl in homeroom:
Me: hey, did (teacher) show you that picture.
    Girl: yeah
Me: do you know what it was?
    Girl: It was a camera
    Me: EXTREME FACEPALM
It's always funnier when another techie friend is around you.

Fine, I'll admit that their build quality is great.

What hits me is their marketing tactic. They show the iPhone as "cool" and "popular", and most kids in my school are iSheep. They go "OMFG the iPhone is so great and everyone uses it" and I am viewed as a "nerd" for being interested in a One M8. Same with the OSX platform. Everybody calls me a nerd for going Windows, and I personally prefer Windows for it's functionality.

Yesterday morning in Spanish the computer wasn't booting, the teacher thought that turning the SmartBoard on and plugging her flash drive in there would help. She almost pissed herself when it booted into the Windows Recovery console, she tried clicking cancel and then it told her that the operation was not able to cancel, she banged on the keyboard, then it gave a prompt to send info to MS and when she tried to click it all locked up and crashed. I was LOLing so hard.

    Ah yes...

Back in September I was taking a computer class with that awesome tech teacher. He asked the class the following question: "What does a computer need to turn on?"

Below are some of the responses:

A hard drive  The Internet (like 10 people said this) Power A mouse  Google (I began snickering here) Twitter Instagram Facebook (I almost lost control here but regained it)
Finally I couldn't take it anymore and stated that a BIOS was needed, which would load when power was provided to the system, initiate and run through the P-O-S-T, then hand control over to the OS of choice. The classes' reaction:

After the teacher complimented on my excellent response, I heard some kids muttering:

That kid is a nerd. That kid is a retard. Dafuq is a BIOS? Is that a website? Dafuq is a POST? Do you post it on Facebook? Dafuq is an OS?
EDIT: If you are using the night theme the picture may look weird. Sorry.

Sit back into your chairs, gentlemen. You are in for quite a ride.

Today my computer teacher bailed me out of Chorus class (awesome tech teacher) so that I could help him install drivers for some newly acquired old laptops. This story will focus on one girl in particular.

    Story 1:

    *le me yelling across room*

    Me: Wireless card drivers right?!?
    Teacher: Yeah.
Girl: YOU GUYS HAVE THE WIFI PASSWORD? YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT!
Me: *sitting at teacher's PC downloading network drivers* FACEPALM

    Story 2:

Teacher: These computers are a little old. The driver install takes quite a bit.
    Me: Agreed
Girl: Get a Windows 8 PC.

It drives me NUTS how everybody says "OHMYGAWD I HAVE A WINDOWS 8 PC IT IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD" while it has an Atom and 2GB of RAM.

Remember the kid who said that I was building a "bum-ass laptop"? Well:

    Kid: I have a supercomputer. It's a Toshiba.
    Me: FACEPALM
    Me: Specs please!
    KId: 6GB RAM
    Me: Meh. What CPU?
Kid: You don't need a CPU to run a computer. They are for losers.

We were in the stairway at the time. I lost my shit and flew down 2 floors in 9 seconds.

@XtremeTechGaming told me the following today:

One time he was building a PC. Top of the line, GTX 780 and an i7 and whatnot. It just so happened that the timing of his build coincided with his tech-illiterate relatives visiting. His uncle took the PC WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION and brought it back to Texas for his six-year-old to play, guess, FUCKING FLASH GAMES ON A 780. XTremeTech said that the computer slowed down due to the family installing random shit, and they got so mad that they RIPPED THE 780TI out (without unscrewing or releasing the bracket on the slot) and BROKE THE FUCKING THING IN HALF. He said to me that he would never let them touch his technology again. I told him to get the system back, but apparently the illiterates got so mad at it they destroyed the entire thing.

A moment of silence was held for the system.

Not exactly tech in the sense that we think of it but I saw an elderly lady on the bus insert her farecard into the farebox slot upside-down and backwards, holding up the boarding line for about 40 seconds before the driver gave up and did it for her.

How hard is it to understand the instructions on this?

WinNut got a reaction from 2Buck in Is this generation becoming computer illiterate because of TABLETS?
    The title says it all.

If I sit a randomly selected 12-year-old at school in front of an iPad, he/she will have no problems operating it at all. Games, apps, websites, all that good stuff will be understood by said child. However, I notice that if I put them in front of a PC they will struggle in every way to operate it, and once or twice I have seen kids that think that Siri on the PC is a thing and try to TALK to the computer when voice-recognition software is not running/installed. I think that technology has been made idiot-proof and is thus costing us in terms of computer literacy. The tablet is foolproof: press the power button, slide to unlock, enter password (if applicable) and touch on icons that pertain to what you want to do. However, the PC goes much deeper than that, and that is what causes problems. Because the PC goes so deep and has much more functionality, kids fail to take advantage of that deeper functionality and struggle with basic operations. Personally, I am a power user on both the iOS and Windows platform, and I find that my knowledge helps my computing experience run more smoothly as I cannot fuck things up as a bad as I have seen.

My sentiments exactly. People expect you to magically, by some mysterious force, to know everything about every site and every piece of hardware and be able to fix anything in the world even if it is because of a server in Tibet, for all I fucking care. Then when you tell them that you can't fix it they call you a dumbass.
