RoseLuck462 reacted to Spindel in M1 Mac owners are experiencing extremely high SSD writes over short periods of time, likely thanks to aggressive swap
My M1 Mini that I have had since around 20 November 2020 (ordered it right after apple event).

Given I have 16 GB RAM so my computer doesn't page much.

1,5 TB Written, screenshot taken right now.

But these what these tools report are questionable, the biggest one is: Since I'm working from home I'm working on the computer almost every day and these tools only report 95 hours power on, SINCE THE END OF NOVEMBER!

And even if I would have a higher data write count to me this is a nothing burger.

    Well, is not it brilliant?
Solder the ssd so that it cannot be replaced and machine is dead once its dead, limit warranty coverage based on TBW, make OS write whole bunch of stuff so that TBW limit is exhausted fast and the ssd is no longer covered by warranty. Sounds like fraud, does not it?

Honestly though - soldered storage is and always was terrible idea, and that's the reason i am personally staying away from many apple stuff nowadays, while i used to like it some time ago...

Just watching your recent video regarding, I hope the team your contributors, the team you employ and yourself are able to see this post I am writing
This will eventually be old news so anyone reading this here is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfIibTBaoMM

Now when I first started seeing some of your videos I didn't think much of them, just another gamers trying to get views by using popular products
Well, that is important, for many successful YouTube vloggers..... But over the last two years I have began paying attention to some of the things that you have been saying

First and foremost, thank you for sharing the video regarding the Nvidia GeForce 3060
Why am I thanking you? It doesn't affect me!
I don't know, maybe I just find value in people putting it forward like this
It didn't take long for myself to interpret what the release of the 3060 was all about, I had seen some of the articles and videos had been making about the news, at first I figured it was all hype and that Nvidia were just introducing a new release cycle
Then I found that Nvidia themselves were sharing this news, could not believe what I was reading "for gamers", yeah right! What a crock! What amazed me honestly is how many vloggers, bloggers and gamers took all this on face value
And then here comes your update

It doesn't hold back, it informs gamers, it is credible and most importantly it is honest
The 3060 is not going to benefit gamers, at all!

Now I know many game as a hobby, they contribute to society in other ways and spending money on a high performance PC is a rewarding thing for people to do
There are many others who take computers a little more seriously sharing misinformation contributing to these lies, for what? Acceptance from others and a few more likes on your YouTube channel? All I have to say there is simply get a life, get a job or study, that is pathetic

Good on you Linus, you covered the topic well, not only that but you made it impersonal too, this isn't about the people who work for Nvidia, they are people just like everyone else and deserve respect, just like everyone else

I am a bit of a tech enthusiast myself, I don't mind a bit of gaming but the interest always moves on to seeing how the game works, I love my VFIO and I virtualize everything I do
As a VFIO enthusiast you see quite openly how Nvidia and AMD just ignore the gaming the community quite blatantly, the number of users who use VFIO have grown substantially and we receive no support at all from the brand itself, we are simply expected to purchase their more costly lines, we know VFIO is available and in Radeon and GeForce cards, we know it is disabled through the GeForce and Radeon drivers, this is a slap in the face
I mean, want to game on their 30xx series cards in VFIO? No problem, just spend $12,500 for our entry-level A100 and you will be all set for gaming in VFIO! What a crock, and people think that "scalpers" and miners are making it difficult for gamers! Looks more like collusion from AMD and Nvidia, I always assumed that being anticompetitive was illegal in many countries
Also, thank you for covering this in a previous video, would love to see more on it

My regards to everyone reading this
Keep posting great content, keep sharing quality updates, keep up the honesty
    Stay strong and keep safe

Took a trip to Micro Center today. Needed to get some thumb drives for when I move files around or make a Windows installation media drive; time to move away from the Windows install discs as they take too long to install and then update Windows.

    2x 32GB thumb drives ~$10 dollars.

I don't see that in any of the examples above, plus they seem to be the type of garbage articles that are there just to trick you to click to see more but then don't give any actual help... Those should really die IMO.

yeah well I figured that but my Samsung phone showed me a "1" yesterday while unlocking my phone... man, how I hate Samsung... worst phone ever lol..

yeah sure but the point is they do show other people's content in the search results, you often don't even have to click the link because the answer is already layed out to you (like in the example above) which again, is convenient, but then they should either only show Google's own content, or pay for the stuff they show...

And while I'm not sure why that didn't work with news just now when I tried, it used to be like that until yesterday - and something tells me it'll change back soon enough too - again, in almost all cases there really isn't any need to click links if you're just looking for quick info, even just the headlines are enough for me personally most of the time - I don't really want to click on news sites anyway to go through their dumb cookie settings and deny shortcuts bull, just to be greeted by a pay wall soon after lol ~

I'm no expert, but this feels like it could break virtually the whole of the internet.  Don't get me wrong I'm one of those people who think news publishers should have as much funding as they need, because quite frankly we need them, but with how many clicks news links get and bots posting them everywhere, I doubt facebook will be the only platform to block all linking, which would likely have the same effect on news publishers; nobody reads the news, nobody goes to their site, they get resigned to the dust bin of history.

I say this because I hit up r/worldnews every morning to find the latest stories, if suddenly sites halted linking to pages of news articles, I know I, and many others, would never see the news, because I don't watch TV and I would not be scrolling through the hundreds of news sites every hour to see what's been posted. The only way the news makes it to most people is the crowd sourcing that is the internet doing what it does best and sifting through all the information with sheer numbers.

But they don't "show content", they just link to it on the original publisher's site.
If they showed content then yes, and it seems to be an agreement they reached in France, show actual news stories and pay the news outlets for that. But having to pay just to link is flawed in principle, that's not how the internet works.

The crux of the matter is actually advertising, not the content.

Google & Facebook are making bank from running adverts alongside content they didn't create while the people who are writing the news can't gets advertisers on board since they're all already advertising on the big platforms.

From my understanding the platform would have to pay when users shared a news link, which is why FB doesn't allow sharing those links anymore in Aus...

Yes, which is why it makes no sense. They want the cake and eat it too, get the traffic AND be paid for it in addition, which is quite the opposite of how things have been forever and the reason why everyone takes them to their word and simply won't link to them anymore and let them enjoy the loss.

as he has explained multiple times in videos, they don't have 20 gtx 1080 ti's 50 2080's and 12 3090's, when they do a build video, most of the time they tear the pc apart again and put the parts back on their shelves

That is actually something he addressed in his "I've been thinking of retiring" video, where he mentioned he does understand the gravity of him reviewing the latest tech also encouraging people to always get the latest stuff (and thus making the older stuff less valuable).
