It's only superior if it fits your exact needs/work flow. Otherwise, it's irrelevant. Is it a step forward for faster tech? Totally. But not everyone needs an M-series Mac. Some people only need a machine that lets them browse the web, other need Quadro's paired with Threadripper's for extreme workloads. It's not one size fits all.

The 10-12 years ahead thing is complete speculation. The M1 is merely comparable to the x86 competition. But it is true that Apple isn't selling the M1 to mass market outside of the products that contain it.

Just gonna flex the two 3090 I got today for my client. The dude dropped full cash for this thing the day it was announced, basically pre-ordering it and now is a very happy camper and NOT having to beat the bots to get it.

Oh, see, I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum and I firmly believe a majority of this is NVIDIA's fault.

    1) All board partner designs have to be approved by NVIDIA, so while Zotac, EVGA, or Palit could submit a shit design, if it gets through, then surely NVIDIA thought it was fine.
    2) NVIDIA gave board partners very little time to test boards.
    3) The time board partners did have to test boards, the majority of it was without drivers to actually run games or actual loads on, so partners could have been binning improper chips too.
    4) Not making the reference design a bit more strict, like a 1+5 config should have been the bare minimum with 2+4 being recommended. ASUS just went overkill by the looks of it.

Some partners managed to do better than others but it definitely sounds like NVIDIA holds most of the fault, board partners just won't admit it because they don't want NVIDIA to wack them in the face with their massive dingly.

I'm still annoyed that everyone calls them POSCAPs

It's like looking at a parking lot full of cars and saying "Dammit, the lot is full of chevrolets"
Or like saying "I have a Toyota compact Chevrolet"
Do you see how little sense this makes?

I got them direct from the supplier. And those two are the only ones there is. That two also represent double digit percentage of all the 3090s that is available on launch for all brands in the country that I lives.
So if you wait on launch day to get them, you ain’t got a chance.

The FE's are not "reference". They are very high end PCB's and the reference boards the AIB boards have are worse hence this one is worse. Yes it's "by design". I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary here, I guess people didnt realize FE was high end this year.

Đỗ Đức Huy got a reaction from zeusthemoose in how much of the MSRP is the profit to individual store?
I can give you some insight into this, as I am an independent computer store in Vietnam.
There are VERY VERY LIMITED STOCK OF THE 3000 series GPU. One local distributor of a brand that exclusively make Nvidia GPU only have 5 3080 and 2 3090 on launch day. Pricing are insane, we are quoted 1900$ for the 3090 at the dealership level. Retail, this thing is going for close to two grand even. Well given that this is 10% VAT added already with "launch day price premium" and generally tech prices in Vietnam being a little higher than straight MSRP, it is expected. And yes I managed to sell one 3090 to one of my customer after I told him two weeks ago to sell his 2080ti. He could have gotten a 3080 and still have some cash to spare, that's how insane the 3000 series is right now. But with the limited stock like I said, it won't change the landscape too much til like end of the year. It all depends on AMD and the crypto market, also on the general world economy as well.

So, there you have it. Local stores like me earns 100$ on a 2000$ card on launch day. About 5-10% for regular stuff. We make money mainly on services and buy back/ resell mostly.

No, because they also contain moisturizing agents like glycerin which will just make things nasty. And because it's hydroscopic, it'll attract moisture which is bad for electronics of any kind. Also because glycerin is sticky, dust will bind to it making things even worse. Only use isopropyl alcohol or something like +90% ethanol. Nothing else.

We do care about performance, we just aren't willing to sacrifice an interface and ecosystem we prefer just to say we score higher in a benchmark.  To abuse car analogies: if you go shopping for a car based purely on 0-60 times, you're A) missing out on so much more and B) probably not very fun.
