RAS_3885 got a reaction from rice guru in Need advice on upgrading my pc.
Make sure to quote folks so they know you replied 🙂

I always recommend people upgrade with purpose, otherwise more often than not you'll waste money by going too high-end for your goals/needs. This is furthered by the Youtubers as you pointed out liking to showcase super high-end builds that might not make sense for most people.

Bottom line, if you're happy with the performance right now on the games you play then you have no need to upgrade. Save the money.

But, based on your specs, generally speaking I'd probably upgrade the CPU first since it's a more entry-level offering. If you want to try CPU overclocking with a k-SKU chips you'd need to move to a different chipset (new motherboard) so there would be added cost there. If no OC plans then the current board is fine. A beefier CPU (like a 10600 or 10700) would then be good for multiple GPU upgrades down the road as a decent CPU doesn't seem to drop in performance on newer games as much as a GPU does (huge generalization here, but lots of folks are still running 4/5/6 gen Intel chips as an example and getting by okay).

GPU would be second, especially if you plan to stay at 1080p as the 2060 is probably fine there. Again, this depends on the frames rates you're currently getting, but generally speaking the 2060 is probably not as limiting as the CPU right now. What are your GPU and CPU utilization percentages like right now? That would help.

Alternatively, if you wanted to jump to something like 1440p (especially if it's 144/165 Hz) then I'd probably reverse that and upgrade the GPU first. Again, this kind reiterates why you need a goal in mind when upgrading.

RAS_3885 got a reaction from 1ppOverheat in Are these front panel holes good enough for intake fans? (cooling the GPU)
That's gonna be due to your CPU limitations running a low resolution w/o any frame rate cap (v-sync or otherwise). Not inherently bad, but not my preferred bottleneck to have. Moving to a higher resolution monitor will help a lot with that, if that's something you're planning to do.

You betcha! Have a good day yourself!

A lot of it will depend on other case components, internal layout, and GPU.

But generally speaking, it's pretty poor for front ventilation.

RAS_3885 got a reaction from PawsGhost in Mediocre question about my laptop's refresh rate
Software drivers can do strange things without any real reason. Since the crash corresponded to the issue starting I'd say something got screwed up with the graphics driver. This is supported by the fact that re-installing them fixed it.

That's why for most any graphics issues my first suggestion is always a clean installation of the drivers. More often than not this will resolve the problem.

RAS_3885 got a reaction from Kilrah in PC gaming change focus just to APUs and Laptops? We should stop thinking of GPU's as gaming hardware. Change my mind.
Desktop gaming (and high-end desktop gaming as a smaller sub-set) has always been the minority of users of the broader PC environment. That doesn't mean those who enjoy it should not spend more money on hardware that supports it. Especially when that more expensive hardware provides an experience that is more valuable to that person (screen size, resolution, refresh rate, graphical quality, etc.).

You're basing your whole "argument" around current-gen high-end being scarce and inflated pricing. Those are temporary and do not negate the entirety of the hobby.

Mono means channels are mixed together whereas stereo would be left and right as separately. The point we are trying to ask here is that how do you know its "only" hands-free mode? If you run test and hear channels as two instead of one, then you don't have any problems. Unless you are looking to disable microphone.

RAS_3885 got a reaction from Mark Kaine in How to set up a 165mz Gsync compatible monitor properly?
I agree with @rickeoon all points. BlurBusters indicated V-Sync on in the Nvidia control panel helps with frame pacing even when G-Sync is active (keep it off in the in-game settings though). I run it on in the NVCP, but don't know if I really notice a difference on/off.

    Article for reference.

Unlikely to be a bug in the driver itself. More often it's some weird interaction of the hardware and software on your particular machine.

That's why more often than not a driver wipe and clean install clears up so many of these types of issues.

    Glad you got it sorted!
