Andrew279cz got a reaction from Action_Johnson in Cyberpunk 2077 finally but will it run for you?
Its one of the better games to launch this year for us PC "plebs". Every else, except Doom, was mediocre in my eyes.

1050ti Is really bad price/performance. Get a Rx 570/470 instead (almost twice the performance for less).
    1650 super isnt bad either.

Andrew279cz got a reaction from Zando Bob in Overclocking upgrade from X79
Going to buy a big and thicc 420mm rad and D5 pump for the current system, so I could easily use it with anything else.

The UD9 is one of the early ones. When Buildzoid did his PCB breakdown the hottest Chip was the 7900x, which doesn’t give me too much confidence in its performance.

Found a X299 Dark for $80 more. Might be better to buy this mobo instead.

Personally not too keen on X99. Don’t feel like paying around $600 here in EU for another 6 core that’s barely better than my current one. Same goes for 8 core which isn’t much better.

Also found a 7980xe for $650 and X299 UD9 for $250. With RAM I would barely exceed my budget.

Andrew279cz got a reaction from Ben17 in Overheating 3700x in new open loop?!
So, replaced the screws, tightened them real hard and now Im idling around 35C, after 15m of Prime I got to 60C.
If I can say so, the issue has been solved, so its time to close this thread.

Came with just standard Intel screws. The tips are a bit smaller than "normal" am4 screws, but they fit.
I could try different AM4 screws for a different air cooler, but they are smaller in lenght, so I hope I dont crack the cpu/board when tightening them.

    - Lol no. I bought it second hand from a friend of mine who does custom loops "professionally" (flushed loop with over 20l of water)
    - Yep, tightened them as much as possible, right now trying different AM4 screws from a different cooler, but I doubt they will work
    - HWInfo, also tried BIOS. Both reporting idle temps around 50-60

    Hi lads,
so after 5 days of working on my very first open loop (and went straight to hard line) I ran into this issue:

A goddamn 3700x on stock is idleing around 60C, during 100% load (CB15) it almost instantly gets into low 80s.

The loop consists of 360+240 rads, EK-XRES 100 SPC pump/res and a EK Supremacy WB. I bought the AM4 plate so I can install the block, but kept the screws that are used for Intel systems, but they screw in without a problem)

I suspect it might either be insufficient contact between WB and CPU or possibly some gunk stick between WB´s microfins. During dissambly I inspected the WB for corrosion and cleaned any gunk possibly stuck in there. Water flow is OK, no issues there.

    Any help appreciated!

Good thing to mention the importance of case airflow. But that mostly depends on his case and number and type of fans.
But there is a limit how much heat you can dissipate from those tiny heatsinks.

This is my plan, wait for the 9th gen and snipe a 8700k and MoBo + RAM if I can

It is true...a 8700k would be the best gaming cpu atm. However, I am not 100% convinced that you are experiencing a worthy bottleneck to justify an upgrade. Can you provide more details to show this bottleneck.

Also, wait for the latest gen intel to release before you upgrade.

It is compatible it most games. Only 1 I have ever played didn’t and I’m sure there’s a way around it. Two is better than one even if it only uses 10-25% of the second card. Like pubg in its default state.

Yes indeed. Although, many if not most current AAA and even some AA games support SLI, but the scaling isn't always the greatest. The reply I sent to Mick Naughty is if I choose 1x 1080/1080ti. I decided that I won't SLI any of the cards, because then the CPU WOULD bottleneck the GPUs + I would need a better PSU than a 750W Evga B2.
But still, I'm leaning more towards the 1080ti side of things. The 30%-35% increase in FPS isn't something to just gloss over, although there is that rather large price increase.

If those overclocks are allowed in the BIOS, then yes, that is a good way to set up the frequencies.

x79 motherboards are all over the place on eBay, so you should be good in case something happens. You could do just a mild overclock to something like 4.0, that ought to do it. I made a build with a 4790s with a 1070 founders edition, yielded a pretty balanced build with good CPU performance. The 4790s turbos to about 3.7GHz, so I imagine going to about 4 would provide better performance. I believe on some x79 boards you can also adjust what frequency the cores operate at with a given load, so a 4 core load could be 4.0, but a 6 core load could be 3.8.

Have you overclocked? you should be good with a 1080 ti, since the 4790k is good for any GPU, the 3930k should also because it's the refined version of the sandy bridge architecture.
Also, for longevity, the only thing you should worry about is the motherboard. The CPU will last a long time, as will the ram.
