darknessblade got a reaction from kenblu24 in 5 weird motherboards that shouldn't exist
The only thing i can think of that one would use those USB ports for would be a USB powered  BBQ/grill:

    -------------

I cant really speak for others as my motherboard has a lot of USB ports itself
I myself have the ASUS Crosshair VIII formulla, which over 11 USB 3.0 type A ports. [excluding the front panel ones]
with front panel i have over 17 USB 3.0 type A ports of which 2 USB 2.0
and i have another 2 USB 3.0 type C ports.

its not that i have to use it all, but its nice to have. as you will never have the issue of accidentally plugging in a USB 3.0 drive into a usb 2.0 port.
    why i chose the formula:
    - 5gb/ 10gb internet ports [need to upgrade my internet setup soon to support 10gb/s]
    - No IO based usb 2.0 ports
    - great support for watercooling [currently using a AIO for the cpu, and the asus strix LC RX6800xt, so i technically do not need a custom loop]
    - great overclocking support [if i ever gonna use it]
    - oled status panel
    - full support for Ryzen 9 5900x. [unlike cheaper boards which don't utilize the full power of the  5900x]

[case: thermaltake core X71, use silicone dust-caps to cover the 3.5mm port, and 3 of the usb ports,]

As for temps under normal use the CPU barely gets hotter than 45C, the GPU is barely hotter than 35C. [ambient 25C]

darknessblade got a reaction from Felipe9999 in Rescue fan from bad PSU
This is a DC only fan if plugged in normally it will run at full speed. meaning you need to have a fan controller that works like a light dimmer.

the PSU has a build in dimmer that lowers the voltage so it runs quieter. but to reuse it you need to connect something like a potentiometer between the cables.

Try getting 2 coolermaster Notepal U3.
then place the fans of 1 stand/pad onto the other, now you have 1 amazing laptop cooler that works great.
[this is what i do with my laptop]

darknessblade got a reaction from SteveGrabowski0 in Is this a good deal for my son
Why not get a Good work/Gaming PC?

then give your kid a Epic games account, where you often add a few free games they give away once in a while.

depending on what games he want, you could check if there is a sale on steam, and give him a {cheapo} Xbox style controller.
Most games currently support crossplatform play.

it all depends on what games he wants to play, if all he plays is fortnite a cheap PC would do just as well as a xbox

darknessblade got a reaction from Benji in What's the most bloat you've seen?
That would have been a DELL PC running windows 10 [when windows 10 was just released]

Like really, 50+ program's of bloathware [counting the apps as well]
which you each have to manually uninstall.

it was easier to cleanly install windows 10 than to remove everything from the DELL PC.

darknessblade got a reaction from 2DPrinter in 3d printing - skipping extruder when manually extruding.
It does not look too damaged.
Though it is better to keep a eye out on it, for the next couple prints, when you start using a Glass bed

darknessblade got a reaction from 2DPrinter in 3d printing - warping on PLA
What you need to do right away is:

start using a Glass bed and buy 3Dlac. which is a superior adhesion spray made for 3d printing.

PS maybe instead of making multiple post make 1 major post where you ask all your questions.
maybe a mod can combine all the posts/threads

darknessblade got a reaction from 2DPrinter in 3d printing - skipping extruder when manually extruding.
The monoprice mini pro does not have a dual-drive extruder.

can you share a pic of your bed? that way we know the damage. since too much of a hole can damage the bed, and potentially start a fire.
it could also be that it is mostly damage to the Nozzle, which is a easy replacement if you replace the nozzle get those cheap RVS nozzles, they are better than the Messing ones.

the Monoprice uses a Z-endstop, so it is not calibration issues, it might be that the endstop got loose. causing the sensor not to be triggered or at a lower height..

The following video shows a "partial" teardown

darknessblade got a reaction from The Real LWK in Advice on games I should try out.
Depending on what kind of games:

    Simulation:
    Roller coaster tycoon 1-3
    simcity [original]
    cities skylines
    open world
    GTA V
    RPG
    Final Fantasy,
    dragon quest
    ------------------
what i suggest you to do is make a Epic games account and check their freebies, they give a Tripple A game away about every month, with every week a new free game.

When covid started they gave away a large load of games including
    Gta V
    Cities skylines
    Roller coaster tycoon 3 {full/complete edition}

darknessblade got a reaction from PianoPlayer88Key in 32x SATA port on a single motherboard
That motherboard could be a whole load smaller if they opted for SFF-8644 connectors, with the HDD's being in a large rack.

if we add a thread-ripper which has 128 CPU lanes.
    a 4x PCI-e SFF-8644 has 4 connectors for a total of 16  hard disks per card
Calcualting for a total of: 512 hard disks, if we take 16TB hard disks that is a total of 8,192 Terrabyte. or about 8 Petabyte of data-storage.

That way you can get more connectors and harddisks connected to a board with a M-atx size.

Since the Video-card on the board does not need a lot of preformance, and only display the screen/status a extremely cheap PCI-e 1x videocard would be more than enough
Which would only decrease the total capacity with 64TB

darknessblade got a reaction from Red :) in Creality Ender 3 Pro vs Ender 3 v2
The ender Pro is generally better in terms of software. due it using marlin as its firmware, which has a good community backing it. allowing you to easily flash the firmware and add features to it.

Not forgetting both printers have a 2020/2040 frame allows you to upgrade quite a lot of the printer.
it just depends on how much you want to do with the printer.

the V2 already has a few upgrades i would personally recommend like a glass bed, and belt Tighteners
    which would cost you about the same as if you would buy it separately. {aliexpress prices}

in my opinion, i would suggest to go for the V2 if you are a N00B with 3d printing.

and go with the Ender Pro if you want to upgrade/hack your entire machine down the road, adding extra features to it, like the hardware features the V2 already has.

Lets see if the CEO likes his own Policy.

Of course the rule would be if he says he/her is the CEO. or informs his staff of this. they will have to DOUBLE refund every consumer who got uncharged against their wishes.

Meaning DELL STILL charged for EVERYTHING That Sarah did not ask for.

We can only wait and see what Dells reaction would be in Part 2 of the Secret shopper 2020 video.

Even here in the EU up-selling without permission and not showing the price on a Itemized "Custom" build, is 100% illegal.

Luckily Dell has NO GEO-blockade on their site, allowing people from outside the Region to browse like normal.
    __________________
    I know that a few PC stores in Canada/USA did not allow out of Region buyers to customize a build, using their PC builder "like PC parts picker". Not sure if they still have that GEO blockade up. {was when the Ryzen's where just released, and not available in the EU yet}

if James May can make a bridge out of it, Then Linus can make a PC case out of it.

of course having a few rules: it must contain everything a normal stock PC would contain.
so tower model, DVD drive, HDD caddy, IO shield,
