I don't know what kind of work she does, it's impossible to tell.

On my college laptop I have 64GB of storage and it's a lot more than I need. My documents are in the cloud and I'm not handling large files.
Depends. My chromebook does exactly what is needed for my class notes, I use OneNote for everything and the touchscreen/stylus is the most important feature.

That motherboard supports 8th and 9th gen CPUs up to the 9900K and variations, so you likely only need to get a CPU, possibly upgrade cooler, and enjoy much better performance. How rich do you feel?

It's a dual core CPU that I think is a bigger problem even with GPU offloading of the encoding.

Typically the board is too far gone for clearing CMOS to help

Have you tried streaming with NVENC? It will use the encoder in the GPU instead, as opposed to the hardware encoder's use of the iGPU

Pentium G5400: 2 cores, 4 threads, 3.7 GHz. That's probably below the minimum for modern games. On the plus side, as it is Coffee Lake generation you could probably upgrade it.

Find out what motherboard is in it. If unsure run CPU-Z and look on the motherboard tab. Then you can check what it is compatible with. Maybe it needs a firmware update also, but hopefully you can then replace the CPU with a higher one in the range which will help out a lot. Possibly cooling may be needed to be upgraded. What cooler is in there?

    OK
    it is very likely toast
contact MSI support, that board runs its VRM hot
    that might be the problem
Also say that "I did not overclock, nor did I use XMP 2.0

From what you have described, yes, it does sound like your motherboard is toast. Can you RMA it? Is it still under manufacturer warranty?

Fasauceome reacted to porina in Can I run Dual Channel/How important is it?
In theory you can have dual channel with different capacity ram on each channel. Worth trying for as this is easy performance to get (or keep).

I think there is some confusion in there. One channel is slots 1+2, the other channel is slots 3+4. A typical two stick configuration for dual channel is using slots 2+4. So put the same capacity modules in those. Put the other capacity pair in the remaining slots.

So with a pair of 8GB modules and 16GB modules, I'd probably try the following:
    Slot 1: 8GB
    Slot 2: 16GB
    Slot 3: 8GB
    Slot 4: 16GB

Both channels then have 24GB with modules arranged in the same order.

16GB modules should be pretty safe in anything made in the last 5 years or so. It's 32GB modules that are more questionable.

I'd go even further and say ram bandwidth is an often overlooked factor to system performance. CPU execution potential has been increasing far faster than ram bandwidth for multiple generations. Bigger on-CPU caches help out somewhat but you still have to get the data in and out at some point. To me having dual channel ram in any system that supports it is a basic requirement and not difficult to meet.

Fasauceome reacted to bellabichon in Will my Generic 650watt PSU(bought from a certified store) be able to handle my RX 570?
If you can link to the new supposedly "rated" PSU, I can take a look to see whether I think those positive reviews are trustworthy. But I'm always going to be skeptical of a $17 650W PSU, because that would be literally impossible to manufacture and still profit off of. Even the crappiest, most generic, not-at-all-modular, didn't even pay for 80+ certification 650W PSUs from reputable manufacturers are like $55.

with the 1650 super being cheaper for almost the same performance, get that. it's also roughly equal to the RX 580 and RX 5500 XT.

Fasauceome reacted to Lurick in Is it ok to install a new cpu when my motherboard has overclock settings set for my old cpu?
The settings will be reset because a new CPU will be detected but if you want to be 100% sure pop out the CMOS battery for a minute and put it back in before installing everything.

Fasauceome reacted to yaboistar in Is it ok to install a new cpu when my motherboard has overclock settings set for my old cpu?
yes, just clear CMOS before you boot. BIOS settings do not enact physical changes to the board so there's no way old settings could cause damage until it's powered up

half the time the bios will just reset anyway when it detects a new cpu has been installed but, always a good idea to reset manually

Yes you need both and any quality PSU will have the right connectors for it.

8 pin power connectors is actually 6+2 pin PCIE. The +2 can be broken off and used or not used, meaning a PSU with two 6+2 pin PCIE connectors can plug into the GPU.

    Yea you need both plugs.

Basically all modern psu's 500w and up will support a gpu like this. The 8 pin gpu plugs can break off 2 of the pins to become 6 pins.

Fasauceome reacted to Dedayog in GPU has 6 pin and 8 pin socket. But I can't find a power supply that has both. Do both need to be hooked up?
There are way too many PSU's to list with 6 and 8 pin connectors.  Look for the words "6+2".  Most have dual 6+2 connectors, and use one in the 8 socket since 6+2=8.

The Ram's low bandwidth, due to the single channel nature, is hurting your performance quite a lot. A second 8GB dimm would help a lot.

A 5950X is pretty overkill for streaming but
If you're a recreational video editor, the 5900X will provide a pretty comfortable experience. But if time is money, the 5950X could pay for itself with faster renders.

You can safely run the BIOS flash program with the CPU installed, without damaging it. Not sure if the CPU error will stop the BIOS flash, but follow the instructions like normal and see if it works

I would guess that big gaping scar towards the bottom of your picture had something to do with it. A couple traces heated up too much and crossed, capacitor wore out and popped, inductor fixed poorly to the board, who knows.
