get a pair of studio headphones and a mod mic. Better audio quality for the money, and you get a microphone. In the range of 250euro, sennheiser and audio technica have good options.

Quadrum got a reaction from Rym in Asus TUF Z590-Plus vs Rog Strix Z590-E
    Differences that I can see:
ROG mobo has 2 full x16 slots (not that you can use both at 16 anyway)
ROG mobo has 2 pcie gen4 m.2 ports where as the other motherboard has only 1 at gen 4 speed
The ROG motherboard has more ports on the back including dual 2.5g lan instead of single 2.5g aswell as two high speed usb c ports
ROG also has a thunderbolt header on the motherboard/'

Considering you are using a 10600k, I would assume most of these features are not ones that you need, and so the TUF motherboard should be fine, but if any of these features are a must-have then you have your decision. They are both very similar, but the expansion options on the ROG board are much better.

When it comes to cables, audio especially, it often makes sense to pay a little extra for quality. Bad audio cables can cause problems and so its important that the ones that you have are high quality.

Overwatch does this too. The theory is that it provides a competitive advantage, which is stupid because they don’t cap high refresh rate monitors or faster actuating keyboards. Really does stink

Quadrum got a reaction from InfinityVive in Why don't we have such concepts on standard PCs yet?
I only sorta know the answer to 4. That was Xeon Phi and project Larabee from Intel and it basically just failed. Coaccelerator cards sort of did this, but since pcie has been the bottleneck it doesn’t work super well. If you need multiple cpus, get a server, if you need a specialized chip like a gpu or other card, get that. Extra cpus aren’t really important.

Sounds to me like either a bad cable or a bad port. If you have a second cable it might be worth it to try it out, if it’s a dead port, you might want to get the board returned.

Quadrum reacted to DomE179 - Nik117D - Domnik in Report: ASRock Bringing Overclocking to Locked Comet Lake-S CPUs, Non-Z Motherboards
    OP: Tom's Hardware, https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/news/intel-comet-lake-overclocking-asrock-base-frequency-boost

Enabling base clock overclocking on non-K Comet Lake chips.

ASRock's Base Frequency Boost (BFB) Technology, which is innate to the brand's latest Intel 400-series motherboards, will allow consumers to overclock the base clock on locked Intel 10th Generation Comet Lake processors, even with non-Z series motherboards, as per a leaked slide shared by VideoCardz.
Intel didn't mention anything about base clock overclocking on non-Z Comet Lake CPUs in its announcement today, so ASRock's solution is likely a proprietary workaround. Technically, it's possible that Intel could eventually disable the ASRock feature with a firmware update; however, this would be a bit odd since CPUs are still running within Intel specifications even if they're using ASRock BFB.
The specifics around ASRock's BFB technology is a mystery for the time being. From what we can gather from the leaked PowerPoint slide, the motherboard vendor is essentially increasing the processor's PL1 (power level 1) from the default value to the maximum value and locking it at the higher value. In ASRock's example, the 65W Comet Lake CPUs operate as if though they were 125W models.

    Model Cores / Threads Base Clock (GHz) ASRock BFB (GHz) Boost Clock (GHz) All-Core Boost Clock (GHz) TDP (W) Intel Core i9-10900 10 / 20 2.8 3.7 5.2 4.5 65 Intel Core i7-10700 8 / 16 2.9 3.9 4.8 4.6 65 Intel Core i5-10600 6 / 12 3.3 4.1 4.8 4.4 65 Intel Core i5-10500 6 / 12 3.1 4.2 4.5 4.2 65 Intel Core i5-10400 6 / 12 2.9 4.0 4.3 4.0 65
A higher TDP limit means more breathing room and, in return, would allow a non-K Comet Lake processor to run at a higher base frequency. Of course, that also implicates a higher power consumption and more heat, so your CPU cooler will ultimately dictate whether you can hit the higher base clock speeds.
According to the slide, ASRock BFB won't produce the same level of uplift on all Comet Lake processors. The increase in base clock speeds will reportedly vary from 800 MHz to 1,100 MHz, depending on the model of the processor. There's no information clarifying whether BFB is an automatic algorithm that decides on an optimal frequency or if the user would have some type of control over it.
Overall, ASRock's Base Frequency Boost looks like it would be a pretty neat feature to have. It'll be interesting to see if other motherboard manufacturers will offer a similar solution.

I have a friend with an nzxt case where his panel spontaneously exploded while he was across the room. Not even touching it. His incident ended up scratching every component of the build, and upon calling up nzxt support he got a new case. I wonder if I can get some photos to continue the “random glass of explosions” thread. Lol

Quadrum got a reaction from Fasauceome in 10980xe stock? False release?
I see you quoted my topic and you seem to have done your research. As someone who got hold of a 10940x not that long ago, let me tell you, it was agonizing.

I spent the good part of 3 weeks compulsively checking 10-12 sites every few hours in hopes that I could snatch a 10940x. I missed it once on Newegg in the first couple days, and after looking for how often the 10980xe goes in stock I’ve found so info.

Intel has been in a massive chip shortage for years now, especially the HEDT lineup, and specifically for the 10980xe, they are just really scarce. Intel promises chips they can’t sometimes deliver, and Covid did make it more difficult, but the truth is that they aren’t trying to ramp up production. It was a paper launch for the media and the actual profit margins are much smaller for 10th gen. You’ll be lucky to ever get the 10980xe for under 1200$.

As for me, after about three weeks and almost giving up, I managed to find Best Buy had the 10940x in stock for first and only time so far, and for MSRP! It was the fastest I’ve made a purchase, and was one of 12 people who were able to purchase that chip from bestbuy, ever.

The bottom line is that it really is a paper launch. Yes it’s a release, but Intel has had their market share diminished and has had trouble getting off 14nm. They released these chips and half price so that reviewers would be positive about the product, but truthfully Intel is barely making money on these chips, and so they are barely making any.

I wish you luck in your quest for the i9 and I’m sorry to hear about your massive shipping delays.
