Be nice and have a civil conversation. OP just wanted people to share their experience and opinions. You don't need to argue that someone else's opinion is wrong.
Encourage the freedom of expression and exchange of information in a mature and responsible manner.

Nope. I paid 80€ for a Geforce GTX 1050. Hardly an expensive buy.

true, for your use case than it isnt worth it as there really isnt much benefit beyond the managed users and dvr (the live tv has a few chanels but they are mainly stuff you will never use, fail army is there though, probably the only chanel on there lol, but you could just watch that on youtube)

yeah that should be possible but you might need to go into the bios and select the 500gb drive as the boot drive

I have a Synology DS918+ with 4 x 6 TB Drives in it. I have them RAID'ed so I can loose a drive and still be ok. It nets me about 15TB and handles my back up and Plex server duties just fine, but then I am the only one in my household. If you have multiple people streaming from your Plex server, it is my understanding you will want something with a bit more CPU power. I had a Antec 1200 Tower that I thought about putting a bunch of drives in but the NAS was a much simpler set up and easier to manage. It also allowed me to connect my cloud accounts to the NAS so now I have my cloud drives on my PC, my NAS and in the cloud. In terms of expandability, there are NAS boxes out there with tons of drive bays. I know Synology has consumer ones going up to at least 12 bays and rack mounted, server style bays have even more.

That said, if a NAS isn't to your liking and the second PC is really only going to be backing up and possibly running a Plex server, the specs really don't need to be that huge. My Synology for example is running a dual core Celeron and it is plenty fast for Plex. I am thinking along the lines of a Core i3 or a Ryzen 3. RAM might be a bigger concern and/or possibly the size of the C drive. When I ran Windows Home Server, it needed a larger area for the C drive to act as a sort of cache to be able to balance out the storage array and facilitate copies. If it didn't have the right amount of space, the  process would be slow since it had to keep clearing out the space. My NAS has 2 x 512 GB SSD's in it for just that purpose. If you are running something in the Windows family, that is definitely something to consider. If on the hand you are going with another OS, I am not as well versed so I can't say for sure.

for $500 usd, if you cannot wait (for the new gpu's from both amd and nvidia), depending on your current specs, if you need to purchase straight away, going a 2060 or 5700XT would be your best bet (i listed both for if you have a preference, as the 5700xt will peform arguably better but im a nvidia guy so i would go the 2060, but a 970 has a decent amount of performance for 60hz)

personally i would wait for the new gpu's and see what you can get a 120+hz monitor for

but i need it to get 200+ fps in bdo so my abilities animation is shorter
im actually half serious there an engine problem in bdo where the animations are significantly faster with higher fps and that give you a big advantage in pvp since you can squeeze in a longer combo

What are the rest of your specs? In my opninion, there's not much better you can do for a 60Hz monitor than a 970 and equavialents. If you have 500 USD, that seems like enough for a new monitor and GPU

the cpu if you are looking at fps, the gpu if you have a 1440p/4k monitor. also zen 3 is rumored to be released at the amd conference as well so it might be worth waiting until then to do either upgrade

WickedStarfish reacted to Lurick in Where do I even get the dual 8pin to 12pin adapter for the 3080
I would bet pretty heavily they put that there because some moron is going to try and adapt a bunch of molex cables to the 12 pin and then cry that Nvidia didn't warn them properly when it blows up the card. PSU manufacturers who do the cables right aren't going to cause issues, it's the janky $2 cable sellers on Amazon and the like that will cause issues.

if you cannot wait an extreme amount of time the 3070 seems to be good price to "nvidia certified" peformance, though i would still wait and have a look what peformance you can get from it (from someone that isnt the person who wants you to buy it) before i clicked buy

Both of those processors are overkill, an Athlon 3000G would be fine. As for the motherboard, any new stock should work fine

We're looking at 350W from the 3090 + 160W from the OC 3900X + some 100W for the rest of the system. That's 610. Ok yeah, I can justify a 750W PSU here. Edited post.
