    Exactly.

This is just capitalism at work.  These companies can choose to drop a customer they feel keeping them is bad for business or bad for their own corporate image.

I guess it comes down to what you want to play.
Xbox has the typical Microsoft exclusives, Halo, Gears, Forza etc.. plus has a selection of some classic Xbox and Xbox 360 games you can play as well.
PS4 has Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider Man, God of War etc..

If exclusives don't matter to you the Xbox One X has a bit more power to it.

I'm genuinely curious many people here that are currently in favour of this bill would still be in favour if it were drafted by the Obama administration?  Or does it not matter which government controls the internet?

Regarding Xbox, I'm very happy they started Xbox Play Anywhere.  When gaming with my Xbox friends I can join in on some Gears of War 4 horde mode playing on PC and hog all the kills playing sniper class with mouse and keyboard, haha.  Plus it's nice to be able to boot up the Xbox in my living room and continue my Forza Horizon 4 progress right where I left off on PC.

Some people are just elitist snobs, just ignore them.
PC is my preferred platform due to things like more controller options, better graphics etc.. etc.. but I still collect all the consoles I can and enjoy the console exclusives.

Consoles are still the most convenient for a living room setup.  Power on with your controller and off you go.  One single storefront, no jumping between Epic, Steam, Origin, Blizzard launcher etc...  You might have to wait a bit for patching if you haven't played your system in ages but overall consoles are still more convenient.

If Cloudflare thinks keeping 8chan on as a customer is bad for business, what should their process be if they want to drop a problem customer?

I wish I kept more of my retro PC gear. I see Voodoo2 cards going for over $100 on ebay.
I remember taking that voodoo2 over to a friends house to pair it with his for old school SLI so we could game at glorious 1024x786, lol.

While it's not improbable that a company could force their own agenda through censorship, I don't think that's what we're witnessing.
I think the vagueness is simply that the market changes quickly.  What's socially acceptable to say one year could change the next.  The goalposts keep moving and much of what we see is reactionary.  8chan has been around for a while but their name has started popping up lately every time white nationalist shoots up a place so Cloudflare obviously wants nothing to do with that.   Had nobody said anything on Logan Paul's suicide forest video Youtube probably wouldn't have changed their rules on monetizing etc...

These companies want to stay profitable and part of that is at least giving the appearance that they have a high standard of morality.  If the market decides that certain ideas are harmful or offensive then these companies are just going to follow the $$$.

I remember that.  I think it was 1996 when we got our first computer.  The OS crapped out so many times that I got a lot of practice installing windows on it, haha.

    These are business decisions.
Facebook has started clamping down on what they believe to be hate speech in order to protect their community standards.  They did this because they want Facebook to continue being successful.  Youtube has either dropped or demonized videos they feel would be harmful to their business.  Cloudflare dropped 8chan because they would rather lose one customer than lose millions if 8chan keeps popping up in the news after more mass shootings.

You would be denying them control over their own content.  Much of what gets censored or dropped is just a reaction to the current market.

Just because a company grows in size and popularity doesn't mean they should lose control of their content.  Every post here on LTT represents LTT in some way and LTT gets to decide which of these posts meets their standards.  If LTT suddenly explodes in popularly does that mean LTT loses control over their own community standards? I'm sure LTT has a business image it would like to protect regardless of their success.

It's the same concept on Facebook, Youtube etc... all the content they allow represents them to some degree.  Cloudflare obviously felt that holding onto 8chan as a customer would poorly reflect on Cloudflare thus giving them the boot.

Whether or not dropping 8chan will actually have an affect on their users is debatable but that's not Cloudflare's problem.  By dropping 8chan they can wipe their hands clean of it and avoid future PR nightmares should we see more radical violence in the future.

The recent white supremacist mass shootings that occurred lately is likely why they're focusing on it.
Not sure what you mean by that.  You seem confused on what free speech actually is so I gave you the definition.

Free speech definition since it seems to need to be said:

: the right to express information, ideas, and opinions free of government restrictions based on content and subject only to reasonable limitations (as the power of the government to avoid a clear and present danger) especially as guaranteed by the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution

It doesn't say anything about private companies and their platforms.

    Again,
When posting online or putting up a website on a hosting service.  You can't assume that what you post is 100% protected.  The mods here can delete this whole thread if they want to, and they likely will lock this.
Unless you own the server space and infrastructure your speech resides on, it can be removed.  What you post online is not the same as talking in your front yard.

They can censor all they want.  If the mods here decide that this thread has run it's course they can freely lock and delete any posts they see fit.  It's their platform, not ours.  Same with Facebook, if I post something that doesn't comply with their community standards, they can delete my posts, I don't own Facebook.

Again, nobody is obligated to accept or keep 8chan as a customer.  If I provided any hosting service they certainly wouldn't be getting business from me.

Free speech is not freedom of consequence.  It simply means the government can't silence you.  It doesn't protect you from being blacklisted by society if society thinks you're disgusting.  How are people still confused over the definition of free speech?

No, they're protecting their own business image by choosing not to do business with 8chan.  No rights were infringed.  The free market has spoken and 8chan are getting shown the door.

It's called capitalism.  8chan just learned the hard way that fostering the worst of humanity can be bad for business.  Nobody else is obliged to keep 8chan as a customer.
