Schnoz reacted to wat3rmelon_man2 in Experiences with non-techies
People at my school have done equally dumb things... like trying to use the - key on a TI-30X IIS calculator to indicate a negative and wondering why they got syntax errors every time...

A simple restart should fix that one.

My mom called me on the phone one day in a panic because "her tab got big and she can't fix it". She had put Chrome in fullscreen.

K so i work in retail selling laptops and printers. A few of the most common things to come up are:
1. Old person reads slowly off a piece of paper "It needs to have an eyecore 3, 8 emm bee of ram, and windows vista" because they looked at the requirement for some ancient software.
2. "YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. I WANT A CHEAP LAPTOP. THIS IS NOT CHEAP!" As I show them a 450 CAD laptop
3. "I dont need these features, Im just looking for a work laptop." (A laptop with an i5 is on sale for cheaper than one with an i3, but they insist on going with the i3 because they dont need the i5)
4. "Im looking for a new hard drive". I show them the hard drives, and after like 5 min of talking I realize they mean a computer

One of my customers wanted me to repair their 2012 Macbook Pro with a failed hard drive. Thing is, they explicitly refused a speedier, cheaper SSD replacement and specifically asked for an identical 5400 RPM HDD. Why? "Because it's officially certified by Apple." No amount of persuading would convince him to let me install an SSD.

Schnoz reacted to Dr. Kaloob in Welcome Back to 2007? Lenovo to Introduce Updated ThinkPad Models with 16:10 Displays, AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs and More
The ThinkPad has been that way for about a decade. This is actually a step in the right direction as the last non-16:9 ThinkPad was the T410.
I'd personally go for 16:10 for the best balance (I have to run things side by side a lot), but it'd be cool to see 4:3 options.

33.6K modem.
It's a butt to find drivers for Windows 2000.
Still haven't found any.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. You're definitely on my list. Other nomination goes to @Schnoz

I found this one on the internets. It's not exactly actual computer gore, but I think it still fits the tone of this thread.
"I know someone who uses rent a center. I can’t believe it’s legal. He’s paying like $50 a month for the last 3 years for a PS4 and another $100 a month (same time frame) for a tv that’s no more than $800 if he bought it. But he keeps paying for it, he could have bought multiple TVs and PS4s in this time frame - he recently posted on social media wanted peoples opinions on if its “worth it”"

You might be surprised, with my local rate of 8 cents per kw/h my P106-100 (1060 6GB) will make around $80 a month at the current bitcoin prices. It would need to fall to under $20,000 to stop making money after the cost of electricity.
