  1. Some new stuff just arrived yesterday!

First up is this  amazingly large  6 W/mK thermal pad. Here's my hand for scale:

I  used it to improve my PS4's memory cooling:

Next up is the 5V Noctua 40x10mm fan I ordered to cool my Jetson Nano:

Finally, here's a few SSDs I ordered for more device repairs.

I made sure  to  get ones with DRAM in order to improve performance and ext--

What the heck, Transcend...you advertised DRAM  in  your Amazon listing. Oh  well, I can't be bothered to  return them and they already perform far faster than the aging HDD's I'm replacing them with.

Wait. I take my defence back: Transcent sucks.

      1. product rendering still shows the old product

      2. In the past it had DRAM:

Why is it so common to downgrade SSD without changing the product naming?

@LeventYep, I made sure that the thermal pads contact the steel plate. Thanks for the heads-up  though.

@James Evens It is quite frustrating. I ordered a few more SSDs of different brands, so I'll see if those contain DRAM.

  2. Ahhh...rain all week. That makes me happy.

And I am here with my 20C winters.

In Germany we had nothing but rain in the last two months. It's been cloudy and raining every single day. It's so depressing.

  3. I implemented many modifications to my system's cooling, including a fan and heatsinks on the back of the motherboard. Also, no RGB. Only minimal white lighting.
  4. People are thinking that simply having an RTX 3000-series card makes the entire  PC faster...

@TopHatProductions115 Except that doesn't make much sense for Apple, who only releases refreshes periodically. It'd make their products appear very dated, and would be a horrible business decision.

@PCGuy_5960 Agreed. You might have to dig a little deeper to find out everything you need to know, but it's not like the information simply isn't there. Razer for example? Look at the spec. If you're not, why on earth are you dropping thousands of dollars on a product.

    3. TopHatProductions115

@dizmo Tell me how it works for Microsoft Office? Or Windows, up until the 90's? Not saying that it's a perfect option. But, if no other options are taken, need some way to distinguish. Maybe Mk.1 Mk. 2, etc. instead?

They have model numbers. They're just not in the title. Again, just need to dig a little deeper. It's not rocket science. You'd still have to look up to see what MK they're on, so it's no different then seeing what model number they're on. It works for Windows and Office because you really have no other choice.

  6. My new network card came recently!

It uses the Intel AX200NGW network card. It got warm during testing, so I slapped a heatsink on  it:

For  some reason though, I haven't noticed any improvement in network performance even after installing the correct drivers. My PC is around ten feet away from an Google Wifi cluster router,  and our house uses a Gigabit ethernet connection. What could be causing this problem? Tagging @Windows7ge on this.

Do you have another computer nearby that you could plug your new NIC into? Run the same test on Ubuntu and compare the results.

    3. Schnoz

@Windows7ge I don't have a second desktop available at the moment, and the antenna wires are glued to the card because the manufacturer. I'll see if I can get my old desktop up and running. By the way, do you have a tool you prefer for cloning OS drives? I'm trying to transfer the contents of a 500 GB HDD onto a 120 GB SSD. AOMEI Partition Assistant says I need more space on the SSD  (despite the HDD only having 80 GB of occupied space, and I'm having trouble finding a better drive cloning software. I'm about to try the copy of Acronis True Image that @James Evens so graciously sent me.

    4. Windows7ge

It's strange it's performing poorly on a different OS given it's the replacement NIC for the first NIC that was performing poorly. I don't know what core components if any would cause poor network performance if other clients appear unaffected.

Unfortunately I'm not a good person to ask about drive cloning OS's. I've always just opted for fresh installs every time it became necessary.

  7. Can I delid this one too?
